Yet another Day of Disaster for the "Best Team in Baseball[PFFT!]" The Tigers lost to the Indians 4-2 making their record in the "Era of Collapse" 5-12; they'll have to play .500 the rest of the month to reach TCW's predicted 8-15. Meanwhile the surging Twins came from behind to beat the White Sox in Chicago 5-4 and have now sliced the Tiger lead to only 5 games and just 4 in the loss column. Will someone please remove all the sharp objects from Rwingo's house; we don't want TWO tragedies in Michigan.

But mainly I just wanted to point out that Kenny Rogers got the win tonight. That gives your favorite pitcher a 3-1 record with a 1.64 ERA for the month of August. So much for the second half 'choke.'

The Teegers are a wonderful 6-13 since August 7 and now have to go to Yankee Stadium. The Yanks have been dogging it a bit since crushing the Sux, but this is the kind of "make a statement" series that the Big Boys thrive on. They crushed the Tigers earlier in the year and it would require a small miracle for your boys to split and reach the TCW braintrust prediction of 8-15 from August 7th to the end of the month.

With the White Sox and Twins both at home against the Devil Rays and Royals respectively, I doubt whether your kiddie bar of a 5 game lead at the end of August will be reached.

The Punchless Pussycats were throughly dominated by Wang, Proctor and Rivera in a 2-0 Yankee win despite the Most Successful Sports Franchise in History leaving about 62 runners on. We're halfway to Wingo mailing a check; you'd think the Tigers would have a shot against the medicore Jared Wright tonight but don't be surprised if the Yanks score a quick kill over the "Best Team in Baseball [PFFT!]".
Agreed. $10 it is.

Annoyingly, for the second time this year against the Tigers, idiot Torre left Moe Rivera in the bullpen with the Yankees holding a lead in the ninth. The over used and struggling as of late Scott Proctor gave up a three run homer to some Tiger I've never heard of, delaying Rob's losing the bet for another day.

Of course you know I'm going to win now.
Originally posted by rwingettDon't be absurd; Bonderman and Johnson hooked up on May 29 and the result was a 4-0 Yank win. Unless Joe wants to bench most of the squad, we'll win easily. And even if he does, we'll win; it is ridiculous, however, that he doesn't seem to consider these games of any importance when home field advantage is within our reach. Both the games the Tigers won against us this year were because he held Rivera out; those two games might be important at the end. We hadn't played since Sunday and Rivera used about 12 pitches in the first game, so their was no reason to keep him out - I'm sure he was chomping at the bit to pitch (he hadn't had a save in two weeks). Oh well, Torre is our curse.

EDIT: Rivera threw a mere 14 pitches in game 1 of the doubleheader.

A few weeks ago, I boldly predicted that the Tigers, "the best team in Baseball [PFFT!]"would start failing apart as they entered the stretch with a tough schedule. I foresaw that the Tigers would go a mere 8-15 over the their next 23 games. I was scoffed at by the "experts" here.
We are now 10 games into this period and the Tigers are 3-7. T ...[text shortened]... ger excuses are welcome to post here if they can take the mockery sure to be heaped on them.
Baseball?
"Rounders" for the Americans?
I reckon pub darts is more of a sport to be honest 😉
Originally posted by no1marauderWhat I dont understand is even if he didn't want to use Rivera for that game, why he didn't go to Farnsworth instead. During the game, it was assumed that Farnsy was perhaps not feeling well, or maybe even hurt. This was not the case. Joe went with Proctor, who had been struggling a bit lately and is the Yankees third choice. Why?

I still like Torre (he HAS won 4 championships), but this decision I just didn't understand. I really thought Rivera was coming into the game, especially since he didn't throw that many pitches before that game, and was really surprised that it was Proctor who got the call instead of Farnsworth when that didn't happen.
