On Friday Craig Monroe hits a two run homerun in the bottom of the eighth to give the Tigers a 7-6 victory over Cleveland.
Yesterday Pudge hits a walkoff two run homer, with two out in the bottom on the ninth, to give the Tigers a 4-3 victory over Cleveland. A truly electrifying game.
Today we shut out Clevaland for a 1-0 victory. This is our 13th shutout this year, which leads the majors.
Also today, Chicago is beaten 7-3 by Toronto (thank you, Darvlay) to extend our lead to 9 games. The Tigers' stanglehold on the AL Central tightens ever more. With two thirds of the season over, and with a 5-1 record in August, the Tigers show no signs of slowing down.

For the rest of August you have 7 games with the White Sox and series in Boston and New York. Youza! One breather with Cleveland and a series with the hard hitting Rangers. I think about 8-15 is what you can expect.
Originally posted by no1marauderAlright, check back on this thread on August 31st and we'll see how accurate your prediction is. I say our lead will not be less than 5 games at that point.

Originally posted by no1marauderLiriano wasn't much trouble for the Series-bound Tigers. We beat him again, 9 to 3 this time. That gives us a 10 game lead with 50 games to go. We hammered Radke last time around. I suspect we'll do much he same again tomorrow.

Originally posted by no1marauderIt appears that Liriano is no match for the Tigers at all. He's appeared in four games against us this year (2 in relief and 2 starts) and we've scored in all four appearances. His stats in those four appearances are not impressive:

W 0, L 1, IP 15.2, H 24, ER 13, HR 2, BB 3, K 23, ERA 7.47
Liriano has given up a total of 29 runs this year and 13 of them (45% ) have come against the Tigers. This gives Liriano a 1.27 ERA against the rest of baseball.
Originally posted by badmoonWhat about the other three times we faced him? Has Liriano been injured the entire season? If he is on the DL, then that's the end of the Twins. Their season is over.
Lirano was just put on the DL. You faced a weakened pitcher.
I still say the the Tigers are doomed by going with Todd Jones as your closer. You'll be a first round knockout becuse of that situation. Shame.
Jones has converted 31 of 34 save opportunities this season. That's not too shabby. He's been almost automatic recently. He's only given up one run through July and August. Rollercoaster Jones is the man.
Originally posted by rwingettForget Jones. When are they gonna let Zumaya be the closer?

Originally posted by darvlayThey don't want to put too much pressure on the young lad. He's doing just fine in the set-up role. Jones has been pitching so well lately that there's no reason to upset the apple cart. But I'm sure Zumaya will end up as the closer before too much longer.

Our rookie pitchers have been doing fantastic. Verlander, Zumaya and Miner have a combined 27-7 record.
