Liriano wasn't much trouble for the Series-bound Tigers. We beat him again, 9 to 3 this time. That gives us a 10 game lead with 50 games to go. We hammered Radke last time around. I suspect we'll do much he same again tomorrow.
Incorrect-A-Mundo. The Tigers facing a non-crippled pitcher were mowed down by Radke and the Twins 4-2. They face Johan Santana, one of the best pitchers in the league today and he ain't hurt. So the result of this three game affair should be the Twins picking up a game; that'll do - there's still 50+ games left.

I see the Yankees are doing their part to thwart the Tigers by throwing away their game against the White Sox. Thanks a lot. Blown save number three for Rivera.

For July and August, Santana has had a 4.91 ERA. He's been very hittable lately. I say two out of three for the Tigers.

The Twins have won 14 of Santana's last 15 starts, including a 6-4 win over the Tigers on July 30. You'll be down to 8 up in the loss column by 10 PM.

I'll take Moe down the stretch over Doug Jones, thank you.

Doug Jones? He retired years ago, gramps. However, I think Doug and Todd have the same type of moustache.

Doug, Todd whatever; they're about the same age. Doug could probably pitch better than 2-5 and a 4.63 ERA.

Despite Rivera's ERA being 1.96, he's still blown three saves. The same number as Jones.

Fine with me; I'm happy with Rivera the greatest closer in the history of the game. You have Jones; PFFFT!!

Twins win! 2 out of 3 against the Tigers. Should put the Twinks in the lead for the wildcard race if this Yankee score holds up. And RJ is throwing a no-no.

Farnsworth had a poor outing, his first since before the All Star break, but Moe held on by the skin of his teeth by getting Thome to ground out with the winning runs on for a 7-6 Yank win. Meantime, 100 MPH thrower Zumaya got one hit at 120 MPH by Justin Morneau and the Twins won as I predicted. The Tiger meltdown has officially begun.

The Tiger collapse continues; they were blanked by Jose Contreras and the While Sox 5-0. 1-3 so far on the way to my predicted 8-15.

A three game losing streak is hardly a collapse. We still have a 7.5 game lead. Plus Minnesota lost again, so all was not too bad.

A collapse like the Tigers are going through builds in waves. After each pennant race defeat, an inexperienced team like Detroit starts doubting their ability to win. Soon defeatism and panic runs rampant in the clubhouse. We see this happening again and again to poser teams like the 2006 Tigers.

1-3 so far. I would not be surprised if the White Sox sweep them. The Twins were due for a slight let down plus Garza was making his major league debut last night. They should be over this little bump and start making more significant gains this week; I expect that by the end of next weekend they'll be within 5 in the loss column.

Except for Contreras, the White Sox starting pitching is very mediocre. How Garland manages to pull off a 12-4 record with a 5.16 ERA is beyond me. I don't think they have what it takes to make up the difference. And with Liriano on the DL, neither does Minnesota.

Let me assist you in understanding the game of baseball; if Team A scores more runs than Team B, the pitcher for Team A gets the win. The White Sox lead the majors in runs scored averaging almost 5.8 runs per game. In addition, Garland on June 8 was only 4-3 with a 6.19 ERA; since then he has gone 8-1 with just under a 4.00 ERA. Early season stats mean little in determining who is going to win the pennant by playing well down the stretch; the White Sox have a group of experienced pitchers - the Tigers have a bunch of never wases and chokers like Rogers.

They'll lose tonight again as well. Get the brooms out, Jays fan!
