Interesting, is it a side dish or a condiment? I read the article but I have no idea what chutney etc is. 😞

We get Branston Pickle flavoured crisps in our Student Bar. They usually make up a large part of my diet.

It's kind of like a chunky relish. I like it on a piece of French bread over cheese. Would be great on a lot of things though. I'll bet it would be awesome on a burger.

You can't be that harsh. I will admit there were some dishes I was not very fond of, but there were some that were quite good. The fish and chips there beats the hell out of our equivilent here. The shepherd's pie and (I forget what they called it with beef instead of lamb) were also favorites of mine. Didn't much care for blood sausage or kidney pie though.

So it's a misnomer in the US then, because that's usually what you get when you see a recipe for shepard's pie... (beef) The lamb version sounds really good... Man I'm hungry now.

You are correct. I dicovered the mistake when I was there. I always liked the US Shepherd's Pie, but when I ordered it in the UK, I got some funny looks when I asked what cut of beef was in the shepherd's pie. But it was damn good. And the Cottage pie was better than anything I have had in the US.

When I was in Scotland, I actually tried haggis and it wasn't too bad, at least the way it was prepared for our group. I must admit that I knew what it was before I tried it, and I really didn't want to try it, but I did and it wasn't too bad. Now that blood sausage and kidney pie was quite another matter.
