Week 1 Salvation

Salvation means deliverance from sin and its consequences. Review and meditate on these truths until you can say with confidence, “I know I am a Christian…I have been born into God’s family as his Child…I now have eternal life.”

1. Circle key words and phrases in the following Scriptures.

She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins. Matthew 1:21

But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8

For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith--and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God--not by works, so that no one can boast. Ephesians 2:8-9

For, Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. Romans 10:13

Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God--children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband's will, but born of God. John 1:12-13

*For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16

2. In the above Scriptures, what did we learn about:
SALVATION (Matthew 1:21; Romans 5:8; Ephesians 2:8-9;
Romans 10:13)
BECOMING GOD”S CHILD (John 1:12-13)
ETERNAL LIFE (John 3:16)

3. Do a verse study using John 3:16

3a. Verse reference___________
3b. List two key words and define them.
Key Word_____________
Definition_______________________________
Key Word_____________
Definition_______________________________

3c.What does the verse say?
(Paraphrase---Rewrite the verse in your own words.)
__________________________________________

3d. How can you apply the truth of this verse to your life today?

Hi RB,I know you're a good guy and very religious, but isn't too much trying to catechize the site and giving homeworks to do?
This is a chess site and it seems to me that you're doing religious spamming.

Look Ravello I am not religious at all, I just have a relationship with the Lord. Being Religious and a relationship are 2 very different things.
I am not really giving Homework to do You have a free will. Thanks and God Bless.

RBHILL, I'm sorry to see that your discussion topics have been shunned on
the Debates forum. Anybody who reviewed the previous religious threads
that you started there will see that at least myself, and several others,
tried to engage you in serious debate on the issues you raised. These
were in my honest opinion some of the most engaging debates I have
been involved in here. I certainly don't think the topic of religion is any less
legitimate than many other topics that are discussed there. It is a shame
that people don't see the value of having heated discussions over these
issues and have dictated that your topics must dwell in the General
forum populated mainly by drivel.

This is a disappointing development to find upon returning from my vacation.
I have also reviewed the debate threads that I missed while I was away,
and they are a poor replacement for some of the heated discussions that
we have had. I will miss them.

Yes quite right I agree with this. Going to church doesnt make one religious...although one can go to church religiously...that is on a more than regular basis, I religiously wake up in the morning, and religiously tie my sons shoelaces so he wont stumble on them. But I also have a very intimate relationship with my Creator. A relationship which I must say unfortunately I have not put into as much as He has. I have fallen short of following my Savior religiously...perhaps this is yet another tool that God Himself uses to teach us that we are not perfect and no matter how much we work at it or how much we practice it we all fall short.

RBHILL, I suggest you look up the word religious. Here are the three definitions I found:

re-li-gious
adj.
1. Having or showing belief in and reverence for God or a deity.
2. Of, concerned with, or teaching religion: a religious text.
3. Extremely scrupulous or conscientious: religious devotion to duty.

I would say you are religious, and also have a relationship with the Lord.

You definition doesn't talk about a relationship.
In my relationship I don't have a duty to do anything, it is more of a privelage of doing something like Praying or witnessing or even reading the Bible.

You can have both a relationship with God and be religious. In fact, you have to be religious if you have a relationship with God (as per the definition), but being religious does not necessarily mean you need a relationship with God.

If you believe and follow a religion, you are religious. The stronger you follow it, the more religious you are.

You don't understand because you don't know my God. Religion blinds people they can get all cote up in it.

RBHILL, you have often said that salvation is a gift that comes from God,
through Jesus, but that God chooses who is to receive that gift. You have
said that some people may not receive it, by God's choice.

So when your forum avatar says Jesus Loves You!, that really means
Jesus Loves Some of You!, correct? Or does Jesus also love those that
God chooses to deny salvation?

2 Peter 3:9
The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.

I interpret this to mean that the Lord wants to save everyone. But
you have frequently said that salvation is a gift that God chooses
to give to only some people. Are you retracting that now? Or do
you have a verse that supports that as well?
