Giri is just a paper champion. Ronald Weyerstrass could be Dutch Champion every year if he thought it was worth his while entering. He's in a league of his own.

    Hi Fat Lady. 😉

Be good if he did play in it. Imagine his after game interview.

"I would like to say Hi to my friends on RHP."

Though off board mind tricks is in the locker of all these top experienced GM's.
Any edge at that level is an edge.

playing 'mind tricks' after you've lost seems like a lousy explanation as well. how about a little occam's razor here?

Occam's razor? Your far to well read for me. I had to look that one up.

I find it amusing that using Occam's razor in a sentace actually breaks said principle :-)

Surprised by Varuzhan's performance. From what I've seen from the guy he really has potential

Someone should inform Shirov it's allright for black to castle once in a while.

Perhaps I'll send him my copy of logical chess 🙂

Just looks like lousy calculation on Ivanchuk's part. 15. ... Nxd4? was obviously dangerous because of the white rook being on the same file as the black queen. Did he just miss 18. b4?

Edit: Ivanchuk has just resigned. That was an appalling game by him. I think it might be getting to the stage where even the superGMs are scared when they face Carlsen, like they used to be against Kasparov.

Short is playing well against Kramnik. I think he might even win from this position:

    Kramnik

    Short
