I saw that too but dismissed it as being to geekish.

Carlsen amazingly drew .... and won the tournament ....

Anish Giri won Group B ... this 15 year old is improving every day. Next year he'll be in group A.

What a tournament ... Wow !

Anand's game against Kramnik made his participation to worth the money...
A nice win against Kramnik's Petroff does balance that bunch of draws...

Right.

I was surprised to see how many Petrov games in the three Grandmaster groups did nót end in a draw.

I know this is looking far ahead, but this has got to put Magnus Carlsen as the # 1 contender and the right to play the winner of Anand/Topalov right?

Yes, that game was certainly memorable. Kramnik is now facing a difficult task to prepare for the candidates tournament, as he mentioned in an interview after the tournament, he has serious problems with his openings. He was lucky to get away with draws against Short and Tiviakov.

Not to sure about lucky... Nigel Short didn't take a point off any player.

Draws and losses only... A less than stellar performance from Nigel Short in this years
corus. Wonder if it'll hurt any of his sales...

Yes, well, he was very tenacious in defending, finding tricks here and there, and was lucky just in the sense that short failed to finish him. probably no luck ever exists in a game of chess though. 🙂

Fair enough.

I consider Short lucky to have been in a position where he had chances against
Kramnik. But the game in question, certainly could have been finished if Carlsen
or Anand was in the drivers seat.

Short was outclassed throughout the tournament (so I felt when watching his games)
and as you said, utilized many tricks and some tenacious defense, to come out even
in most matches.

Overall a bad tournament for Short I think.
