no no, personally I'm just after some hollywood type of story with an overly ambitious coach vs prodigy child that wants his own life. oh what a tragedy, what a tragedy...

Well, considering the fact that he is preparing his match with Topalov ... that is not surprising. He doesn't want to show much of his preparations regarding opening variations.

I wish Anand hadn't bothered to enter this tournament, his presence diminishes it. Today he drew in 15 moves against Smeets. Surely he could have tried a little harder against someone who has lost more than half his games?

Professional chess players are in the entertainment business. If they can't be bothered to put any effort into their games then they should find another job.

He's very good at chess, that's why he's there. I couldn't care less about the side conditions, he doesn't have to make dances with all his moves or run around like a madman after scoring a point (i.e. soccer players). His chess doesn't have to be entertaining. He just has to sit down and make some moves. Isn't that enough to satisfy your chess needs? 😛
Smashing game by the way. And agree Anand appears not interested.
We all go through them phases when nothing clicks.
Maybe he is enjoying the rest of the games and cannot be bothered playing.
