No, I made a need getting to 1400 and 1600 thread.
To get to 1800 do the same as the 1600 stuff says except concentrate on tactics more and start going over your openings more.
Originally posted by Dragon Fire I'm trying really hard to get to 1600 but everytime I think I'm doing it my opponent goes and gives me a piece so I end up winning again.
How can I stop my opponents just dropping their pieces?
I am sure if I can somehow do this then I will get there!:'(
I'm Jennifer and I'm rated 1500. I made some crucial mistakes in the past, but I've only lost twice since I'm a provincial.
Right now I'm just reading Reaccess your Chess, practicing Tactics every day, and playing here. I don't really games analyzed I can do that myself. Tips would be appreciated still

Hi Jennifer,
My advice is posted all over this thread so you should read it all.
My other thread Need Help getting to 1400 might also help you. For that read page 2 half way down, follow that advice and then page 12 is about planning for player 1800 and up. You can have a read of that also when you have time but it might be harder to implement right now. I'm also having trouble with the planning part.
Doing tactic puzzles is great! That's what got me to 1800. Keep doing them and watch your rating sore 🙂
Originally posted by Ramned I'd not only like to get as good as 1600, but as good as 2000. I've only been playing for 7 , 8 months so i doubt that'll be soon with the inexp.
Join a chess club, work on your tactics and read several chess books. That should get you to 1800 in say 3 years.
After that if you still enjoy chess and want to improve you are looking at a couple of more years to get to 2000.
So I'd say 4-6 years to get to 2000. Are you in for that?

That would be a RHP rating. I've never actually met anyone OTB rated 2000 or over that wasn't taught as a child. I'm not saying its not possible, just an observation. I think it would be very hard to get to 2000 OTB in 6 years as an adult from no understanding of chess. Apart from anything else, finding the time to do the required study is going to be pretty hard for most adults.

I'm talking about OTB ratings.
I got to 1852 in 2 years, but I read 30 chess books over those 2 years and did the la maza tactics program. 2 hours or more each day on chess studying, this does not including play chess ->reading, tactics, analysing.
I know most people don't have that much time, so I think 4 years is reasonable.
