It's not a race. All that matter is that you did it in fewer than 50 moves!! I don't understand that. Most books say if you make a mistake you can't achieve the mate in time. That's crazy; you have plenty of time if you have a rough idea of what to do.

And remember there are three rules:

1. Force the king to the edge of the board;

2. Force the king to a corner;

3. Force the king to the corner that is the color of your bishop.

Please count me in. I recently learned K-B-N vs K and feel I understand well and could probably teach another. Other endgames you mentioned are hit and miss. Cheers!

look for ways to threaten discovered checks...those work nicely to force your opponent where you want him...in other words your bishop "sees" through your knight.

Bobby Fischer's game of the century is perhaps the best example of what that can do.

Yeah, but we are interested in a K+B+N v K ending.

In general (after reaching the edge of the board) if you have a dark square bishop, you want your knight to control the light squares (and vice versa with a light squared bishop). Ergo knight moves should usually come two at a time.

I know this...and thats why the threatened discovered checks are good..because you can move your knight in front or your bishop and still force the opponent where you want him to go.
