Game 2133150

Could white have won?
first ten moves you played great white played terribly, after that its down hill.

11...Nh6? why not just keep developing with Nf6 or Be7
12...Qa5? i think Qa3 is better (no fork)
13...Bxc5?? 14.Nb3 and white has evened up.
17.Nb3?? white refuses to take back a pawn with Rxb7
23...Rad8???
24.Qd3??
24...Nxf2?? gives away your advantage. much better is Rxd6 Qxd6 Qxd6 Rxd6 h6 Nf3 Ne4 -+
27.Rd2?? instead Qd2! Qf5+ Kg1 and white should win.

Game 2330403

by move 21 - it was time for me to retreat.
yet I 'felt' a sacrifice was in order, but I'm no good at analysis...

It just felt right, so I sacced my bishop followed by my rook to pull the king out :-)

very nice game but i would've played
21...Rxf3 (without the bishop sac)
22.Kxf3 forced gxh4? d1=Q+ any Qxf2#
22...Rf8+
23.Kg4 forced again 23.Ke2 d1=Q+ 24.any Rxf2+ 25.Ke1 Qe3+ 26.Qe2 Qxe2# OR 23.Kg2 Qxf2#
23...Qxf2!
now any of 24.Rhg1, Rag1, Qc3, Qd3, or Kxh4 are met with
24...Rf4+! 25.Kh5 (gxf4 Qxf4+ Kh5 g6# ) g6+ 26.Kh6 Rf5! and either Rh5# or Qe3# is unstoppable
any other move on 24. allows 24...Qxg3+ 25.Kh5 Qg5 (24.Kh5 Qxg3 25.any g6# )

the game text also wins but much more subtly as follows
24...Qf2(NOT 24...Rf2!? 25.Rhf1!! d1=Q+ 26.Raxd1!! [Qxd1 Qxe4+ Kg5 h6+ Kh5 Qf5+ Kh4 Qg5# ] Rxc2 27.Rxd4 exd4 28.Rd1 position unclear)
25.Kh4 forced Rf3 Qxf3 leads to a quick mate and 25.Kg5 h6+ 26.Kg6 Rxf1 27.Rxf1 Qxf1 28.Qxd2 Qf7#
25...h6! 26.g4 (to prevent g5🙄
26...Rxf1 27.Rxf1 Qe1+!! the critical move Qxf1 Qxd2 is unclear but the check forces white into a mating net
28.Rxf1 (28.Kh5 Qxf1! 29.Qxd2 Qxh3+ 30.Kg6 Qxg4 31.Qg5 Qxg5# )
28...exf1=Q+ 29.Kh5 Kh7 30.g5 Qg3 31.g6+ Qxg6+ 32.Kh4 Qg5#

Here is one I played against Jazzvanna2 who usually wipes me off the board, he is very good tactically. I got this one however. Anyone see where he went wrong? Game 2180096
Notice on his move 38, my pawn at e3 is perfectly safe long enough for me to make something out of it.

white plays the advanced variation of the french but loses a tempo with 5.Bb5 instead of transposing into the mainline immediately with 5.d4

8...f6 interesting choice a risky strategy that leaves black's king in the open after 9.exf6 but given his development and the open g file black should be able to launch a strong attack

9.d4 white chooses a safer road but leaves less counter chances for himself. He will have a difficult time defending the weak pawn on d4

11.Na3? i think this move seals white's fate the poor knight is practically out of the game. better would be 11.b3 or 11.Nbd2-b3

13.c4? cuts off another escape for the marooned knight and creates a strong passed pawn for black.

13...Nb4? releases pressure from d4 and allows cxd5
14.Bd2? should have played cxd5
16...Nf5 i think 16...Nc6 was more accurate to build pressure on d4
19.Nxf5 only helps black should be trying to rescue the a3 knight instead

20.Rab1!! very neat manuvere to save the d4 pawn tactically (although i think b3 is better)

23.f4! if 23...Bxf4 24.Qxe6+ Kf8 (Kh8 Bf6 or Qf7 Qxf7+ Kxf7 Bxf4 or Kg7 Qf6+ Kg8 Bxf4) 25.Rf1 +-

on move 25 i see the position as = maybe with a slight advantage to black.

25.Rd1? better was 25.Re1! to control the e file if 25...Re8?? 26.Qxe8+! Bxe8 27.Rxe8+ Bf8 28.Bh6!! and black must lose his queen and bishop to stop mate! black can retain an advantage after 25.Rd1 d3!

at move 31. black has increased his advantage by accurately manuvering his pieces to strong positions

After 37.Qd8 the pawn queens (or white sacs a knight for it) forcibly.Instead white has two lines of defense on move 37

A.37.Qd5+ Qxd5 38.cxd5 Bxb2 39.Nc4 Bd4 40.Kf1 Kf7 41.Ne5+ Kf6 42.d6 black should be able to eke out a win after a long fight.

B.37.Qe2 Qd6
Ba.38.Nc2 Qd2 39.Kf1 Qc1+ 40.Ne1 Bxb2 41.Qc2 Qxc2 42.Nxc2 Bd4 43.Ke2 Kf7 44.Nxe3 Bxe3! 45.Kxe3 b5!! -+ black has a won endgame

Bb.38.Nb1 Qxf4 -/+ e.g. 39.Nf3 Bxf3 40.bxf3 h5 41.h3 Qe5 42.Qe1 e2 43.Kf2 Qf4+ 44.Kxe2 Qxc4+ 45.Kd1 Qd5+ 46.Kc1 Qg5+ 47.Kb1 Qxg2

Bc. 38.g3 Qd2! 39.Kf1 Bxb2 40.Nc2 (Nb1? Qc1+ Qe1 Qxc4+ -+) Qc1+ 41.Kg2 Bd4 and black has a significant advantage.

I acknowledge that some other posters do likewise. Kudos to you all.

Thanks for the analysis, I like the 25 Re1 Idea, it would have changed the character of the game. Not sure how you mean the 20 Ra-b1 saves the d pawn tactically. Could you expand on that. I don't see the connection.

the d pawn can no longer be protected (to prevent its capture) however 20.Rab1 protects the b pawn freeing the queen for the eventual Qd2 which wins back the d6 pawn, thus the pawns are in effect traded off. This is a tactical form of "protection".
