As a sample of players rated 100s of points below me (with apologies to these 1800+ players).

I must have dropped a lot of points these past few months.
I could give you dozens of completed games from more players rated 1600+. Plus many more still in progress with 1800+ players.
I issued dozens of open invites when I joined to get rid of the p rating. About 50 games were accepted by players graded less than 1300. Is that my fault? Should I concede them?
Originally posted by JokerFiveWell I don't want to take a skull unless someones seems to be dragging out a lost position and hasn't responded to messages, preferring to "win with chess" rather than by a timeout. I think the timeout on RHP is different to OTB where the time controls are for players in more or less the same circumstances. I would feel quite uncomfotable about taking a win on time from a lost position. Do you know of any evening classes or workshops I can go to to help me be more like you?
Clicking on skulls is only half the fun.....what I really enjoy are the messages you get from the loser afterwards, crying about what a dick you were for doing it. I message them back telling them how much fun I had taking the win on time. This is especially entertaining if they were winning.

Rule No.1: The moment that skull appears, hit it. No exceptions. Ever.
Rule No.2: Never break Rule No.1. Ever.

The one time I didn't take a skull has potentially cost me advancement to the next round of a tournament. Now I am counting on Lundos beating Heindstein so that my 13/18 score can move on in the Clan Laeder Clash II .

true, but the vast majority of them are around 1280, which is the median of the site...
By the way so was I!

Originally posted by FabianFnasIn OTB, in a tournament, when the flag drops, as you say, the game is over and no one disputes this. When a skull appears on RHP you can chose to allow your opponent more time if you wish. Nothing wrong with treating the skull as the end of the game, but people can and do exercise a personal preference in this area.
Keeping the thinking times is part of the game.
As it is in OTB games.
What's the big deal?
Never I've heard anyone whining over the board that I'm greedy of wins when the wing falls on the clock.
So take the loss as an grownup and not as a spoiled child.
Originally posted by cludiYes but OTB (after you have been playing for 4 months) your opponent does not take his annual vacation either.
Agree.
Anything else is nonsense, IMHO
You don't stop your opponents clock OTB if
he/she's is struggling to make the last moves
before losing on time, do you?
Should I lose on a timeout when I go on vacation when my opponent can only be bothered to move every 7 days and I move within 1 hour of him therefore we have only made 16 moves (he has taken 3 months 21 days thinking time and I have had less than 7 days) but now I have 14 days leave and we only have a 7 day time bank. Hell! I expected to finish this game months ago - he was moving slowly not me.
Perhaps it was always a ploy as he knew sooner or later I would go on leave.
Time out conundrum - purely for the amusement of considering it and not something I do or recommend: -
A skull appears against your opponent and you think you are probably winning but can't be 100% sure. You set up the game in your chess engine and have the engine play your opponents moves. If you win against the engine then you consider your position winning and you take the time out. If you lose against the engine you PM the opponent and offer them some more time if they wish to continue.😕
