Is there any reason why you like to engage only those with extreme viewpoints?

Peace,

LH

PS: Have you read 'A Feast for Crows' yet? I'm still rereading the first three books (in ACoK at the moment) so that the characters are fresh in my mind.

Sounds like someone is honing their martyr complex. You poor, poor christians are so oppressed by us secularists. It's such a crying shame that you can't have us burned at the stake anymore.

But now that you've brought it up, you do think that Jews are going to hell, don't you?
I know just by the fact that im entering this thread that I will be accused of all kinds of cerebral dysfunction, the least of which will be something like- you imbecile, you dont even understand the context of this thread or whatever...but Im going to say it anyway

here goes, you know there are a lot of Jews who also call themselves disciples of Jesus... have you never heard of Jews for Jesus? they are the real deal and they are not a cult, they are rightfully called "messianic Jews". and its actually a sign of the last days that when you start to see the Jewish people come to embrace Jesus as their true Messiah, this is probably the beginning of the end of days.

okay,, Im ready, start hurling your insults my way because I am soooooooo stupid, right? go for it,, whatever you resist you empower!!!

I was just bored and trying to stir up some interesting posts, but I was actually curious if Jewish people think that way too. Not trying to be annoying here.

I am about 1/3 of the way through 'A Feast for Crows', it is excellent. I was planning on rereading the first 3 before starting, but I couldn't find them and realized I don't have that much free time anyway. Martin is possibly my favorite author, I read the originals way back when they were first published, I think they are easily his best work, but you might want to check out his older scifi stuff anyway, 'Tuf Voyaging' was one of my personal favorites but that might just be me being weird.

What was that you guys were saying about atheists defending Jews again?[/b]
Well, include "saint" Paul in that mix also, so I get to chop down
christianity in the same thread. He also ate a bit too much
fungi contaminated bread in the desert.

I think a good definition of hell can be had in one word: Earth.

Messianic Judaism seems to be something of a (small) mixed bag, sometimes representing little more than the result of Christian evangelizing to Jews—especially the “Jews for Jesus” group, founded by a Baptist minister—and to include as many gentiles as (ethnic) Jews. Some appear to be more "orthodox" Christian than others (e.g., on the question of the trinity and Jesus' divine nature). This is not to say that they are not honest in their beliefs:

No insults: it's an interesting phenomenon.

It is my perception that there is a lot of "thinking" in the spiritual forums that may not be anti-semetic, but seems to negate your traditions and faith in such a way as to say "we're better than you." It is also my perception that when this happens, usually atheists are the ones who defend you. Any thoughts on this?
(1) I am not a Jew, though I have some Jewish ancestry.

(2) I have probably posted more Jewish exegesis and interpretation of the Hebrew Scriptures in this forum than anyone else.

(3) My approach has been specifically one of Jewish monism (ala Hasidism and Kabbalah).

(4) The only people who have “attacked” this approach per se have been some of those who think that a literalistic/historicistic reading of the scriptures is somehow normative—this has included both some theists and some atheists. None of the attacks (that is really too strong a word) have been ant-Semitic or anti-Judaistic.

(5) The list of people who have not attacked (though have occasionally appropriately questioned—and sometimes approved) these posts includes (in no particular order) No.1 Marauder, Ivanhoe, lucifershammer, Kirksey, Nemesio, Halitose, rwingett, bbarr, BosseDeNage, Wulebgr, KellyJay, David C, and FreakyKBH. (For those I’ve left out, and who were involved in the relevant threads, my apologies.) That’s a pretty broad range.

If there's been some anti-Semitism in other threads, I've missed it. I do find the "only Christians can be saved" line somewhat offensive--but I recognize that it is not generally intended to be, and the offense is probably due to my own sensitivity.

Finally, someone got it right: Freakybaby. Thank you for that.
The only band from Seattle that I can think of which had an album with 'yield' in it is Pearl Jam.

Kind of a stumbling block, ain't it?
