I would like to poll you, please. How many people here are atheistic, and how many religious?

Both and neither. Actually 'neither' would probably be a more accurate answer.
(I'm not trying to be a smart a$$ here,I'm being totally honest)

I've been asked this before and I still have trouble finding which group I belong to.
I think last time I answered 'agnostic'.

Spirituality means nothing. What are you trying to say, that you feel passionate about things? The question I am asking is whether or not you adhere to a religion. If you have religious beliefs (for example, a belief in a God), then you are religious.

Religious means nothing, in fact, as proof, there are many here as you perhaps might have observed, who are atheists, but who have a 'spirituality' and an interest in 'spiritual' things, and indeed, there are many religious persons who have no concept of spirituality. Religious means nothing! Why I should desire to convince you of what i am passionate about, i have really no idea.

If you assert that spiritual is more meaningful than religion, surely you can supply a useful description of what you mean by it! What distinction do you make from religious?

I'm not that good with English, but the dictionary shows me that it either means "concerned with religious values", or spiritualistic, which is the "view that spirits are the prime element of reality" or that spirits can be reached through a medium.

What do you mean by it? I don't know how any of those definitions are meaningful in the context of your posts. If you mean "passionate about something", than why do you think that has anything to do with what I want to know?

i dont think what I am passionate about has anything to do with what you would want to know, that's why i said it didn't.

One can do anything religiously, play chess, gaming, play the guitar, in fact i would state that there need be not even a connotation of the divine in such acts. Religious strikes me as being merely a routine observance, a formality if you like, an adherence to a dogma and empty ceremony. Spirituality on the other hand is concerned with what is not seen, with values that are not material.

I am sorry i dont buy the old dictionary definitions, today i am challenging convention. 🙂

Are you misunderstanding me? I was asking if you meant "passionate" when you said "spiritual". You apparently did not. Instead, you meant religious on an individual level. The answer to my question then, is that you are religious. I don't care what you are passionate about, you needn't worry.

You can use whatever words you want, but "challenging convention" sometimes gets in the way of communication. Let's say I decided to use the word "mango" instead of "cake" to mean a cake-esque pastry that isn't made by routine observance of the directions, not merely a formality, but a cake made out of what could not be seen, of things that are not material. Unless I defined that, as I just did, then it would be difficult to communicate with someone who recognizes what you are describing as an "invisible cake" and who thinks a mango is a fruit.

Nevertheless, you raise some interesting points. I would like to contend that all value are immaterial and thus that your meaning of spiritual is effectively a meaningless description. It is impossible to see any value, as values are socially and individually accepted constructs of the mind. To describe them as material would be inane, as they are not material in the sense of existing as a separate entity from the mind. The mind is material, but the sensations created by its constructs are intangible. Since everyone has values, whether you or I would think them to be good values, everyone is spiritual. Therefore, the use of a poll on spirituality would be nonexistent. You must, then, have a more elaborate definition of spiritual, since you feel a poll on that would a useful thing. Unless you just didn't want to answer the original question.
