The point is that no, we do not, and should not, rely on "only faith". Sometimes we actually display common sense. I'd take the parachute, myself, as well as that first boat that came along. God didn't make us stupid, even though some of us try real hard to disprove this.

I have a favorite god in the norse mythology. Praying to him works very well. Didn't hurt anyway.
