The error of the “Magog is Russia” theory arose from the Scofield Study Bible, which identifies Mesheck and Tubal with the modern Russian cities of Moscow and Tobolsk later to be popularized by Tim LaHaye and Hal Lindsey’s Late Great Planet Earth. The only basis for this interpretation is the somewhat similar sound of the two words; thus, Meshech sounds like Moscow, and Tubal sounds like Tobolsk.

Because the word rosh sounds like Russia, and because Russia is almost due north of Israel, Bible teachers have consistently interpreted these passages as pointing to Russia as the Gog and Magog of Biblical prophecy, despite the fact the Hebrew word rosh is translated here and in every other instance as head or chief, as in Rosh Hashannah, head of the year or New Year

The battle in Ezekiel 38 is not a battle that erupts prior to Armageddon as is commonly claimed but is Armageddon.

A close examination of Daniel 9, where the Bible says that it would be the “people of the prince to come” (v.26) are the people of the Antichrist who would destroy the Jewish Temple. In other words, the ethnic peoples of whom the future Antichrist would be the leader would destroy the Jewish Temple, which was fulfilled in 70 A.D.

But when we examine real history, we find out that the primary group that carried out this destruction was the tenth legion of the Roman army, which was stationed in Antioch. These soldiers were primarily Syrians and Arabs. Today, Antioch is located within the borders of Turkey, on the southeastern corner of Turkey near Syria.

Daniel 9 is also supported by Daniel 11, where Antichrist was prefigured by Antiochus IV Epiphanies, the “King of the North” or the ruler of the Seleucid Division of the Greek Empire which covered a large portion of modern Turkey.

“Here is the mind which has wisdom: The seven heads are seven mountains on which the woman sits. There are also seven kings. Five have fallen, one is, and the other has not yet come. And when he comes, he must continue a short time. The beast that was, and is not, is himself also the eighth, and is of the seven, and is going to perdition.

“The ten horns which you saw are ten kings who have received no kingdom as yet, but they receive authority for one hour as kings with the beast. These are of one mind, and they will give their power and authority to the beast.

    (Revelation 17:9-13 NKJV)

At the time John wrote Revelations the five kingdoms that have fallen are the Egytian, Assyrian, Babylonia, Persian, and the Greek. The sixth kingdom, the one that is at the time of John, is the Roman Empire. The seventh kingdom, which John says had not yet come, is the Ottoman Empire. The eighth kingdom will include the revival of the seventh kingdom.

Ron, how old is the Word of God? God's Omniscience was obviously aware of these details and this thread in eternity past.

    Turkey leads the Muslim world

Ankara has healed relations with and between its neighbours. But it cannot bring itself to be diplomatic with Israel

    Stephen Kinzer

    theguardian.com, Tuesday 27 October 2009 13.00 EDT

This week's visit to Iran by the Turkish prime minister, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, is to be warmly welcomed. Turkey is playing a highly positive new role in the Middle East. It seeks to be a conciliator, a mediator, a peacemaker. Reaching out to Iran is an ideal way for it to play this role.

One dark spot, however, has emerged to blot this happy picture. Turkey has begun to distance itself from Israel.

When It Comes to Debate Over Turkey and Islam, the Left Is Dazed and Confused

For years, Erdogan's so called "moderate" Islamist-rooted Justice and Development party or AKP has sought to impose Muslim values on society. Indeed, even before he became prime minister, Erdogan railed that "one cannot be a Muslim and secular. For them to exist together is not a possibility." Whilst serving as Mayor of Istanbul, Erdogan also remarked that he was "a servant of Shari'a" and "the imam of Istanbul."

Later, once ensconced in power as prime minister, Erdogan used public funds to construct 17,000 mosques while announcing plans to build a super mosque overlooking Istanbul. The government proclaimed that every shopping mall, theater or public facility in Turkey should sport a Muslim prayer room. Erdogan then decried use of social media as "anti-Islam." In an echo of the recent scandal at the National Security Agency and furor over whistle-blower Edward Snowden, Turkish intelligence has reportedly collected information about the religious affiliations of hundreds of individuals and companies, as well as figures close to the CHP, in an effort to prevent people from acquiring choice jobs in the public sector.

In addition, the Erdogan government introduced Koran classes for primary school students and revived clerical training for middle school. Moreover, Erdogan ordered the separation of girls and boys in primary and secondary school and ridiculously ruled that tens of thousands of graduates of Islamic madrassas possess the equivalent of a college degree and therefore can be hired for high level civil service posts. In a further blow to higher learning, the government announced it would select two thirds of the Turkish Academy of Sciences' members.

Next, Erdogan sought to roll back Turkey's modern social sphere by speaking out against gay rights. When the AKP sought to criminalize adultery, the public grew even more nervous and following severe criticism from the European Union, Erdogan was forced to back off. However, the prime minister advocates separation of the sexes on beaches and wants subway passengers to refrain from kissing in public. Furthermore, in an effort to keep women in the home, Erdogan has opposed day care centers but argues that all Turkish women should have three children. Meanwhile, Erdogan supports policies aimed at compelling women to adopt conservative dress and customs, but the misogynistic prime minister turns a blind eye to Turkey's backward child-bride practices and domestic violence. Moreover, Erdogan has come out against abortion and supports legislation reducing Turkey's legal abortion limit from 16 to 10 weeks. The prime minister says he even opposes abortion in cases of rape.

Though the mainstream media seems to have woken up to Erdogan's agenda in the wake of the Taksim protests, the Beltway establishment has tended to ignore creeping Islamism in Turkey or to essentially give the prime minister a pass. As the New York Times recently noted, "for the past few years, there has been a general optimism about Turkish democracy in Western capitals." Obama meanwhile has held up the Erdogan government as a model for other Islamic nations in the region. Though Turkey has pursued an increasingly more independent foreign policy under Erdogan, particularly on Israel and Iran, Ankara is still a key NATO ally which Washington desperately seeks to keep in the fold.
