So, over time, we have various documents we can compare to the same ones written at other times and have them copied into other languages in different locations. No matter how powerful anyone or the church was at any time in their little corner of the world, there was no way anyone could control all of the documents found around the world in other languages.
We can compare today's documents with those from all over the world; some can be dated decades after the events. Many people who lived in those times could validate the truthfulness of the narrative.
