@avalanchethecatYou're not sure that I can read and consider what is written there without your advice?
Not every post I wrote to you contained advice. Some may have. But they contained things you probably did not want to read.
You're saying "I don't need you."
Okay.
This is rather an odd take. Would you care to expand on this statement of what I was thinking?
@sonship saidAgain with the 'fine-tuning'. Unless you can demonstrate - and you can't - that a universe can be 'calibrated', this argument has no weight whatsoever. Theism, it seems, will persist while people can be swayed by nonsense such as this.
Folks, I don't know how Atheism (with some people) will survive into the coming years as we see science uncover more and more the exquisite fine calibration of the universe apparently with a view to human life.
Some will opt to imagining there are an infinite number of universes.
And we just happened to be in the finely tuned one.
Hey, somebody had to land in that one. Right?
The devotion to this rational by some is weird.

Now look you two: If you keep this up you will both spend the weekend in the Harmony Hut. 😉
@kevin-eleven saidWhat, is fun not allowed during advent?

The realization of fine tuning various and seemingly unrelated constants of the universe is recognized by people more qualified than avalanchethecat to speak to it.
Ie. Nobel-winning physicists Steven Weinberg, an avowed atheist - (cheers and whistles please) said -
the cosmological constant - the energy density of empty space - is "remarkably well adjusted in our favor."
Avalanche and some other atheists have adopted an "argument by unflappability" posture - it's not remarkable in the least.
I wonder who has more education in physics, avalanche or Steven Weinberg an atheist. Probably non-nobel lureate avalanche has some catching up to do
I don't think anybody can read the words attributed to Jesus and not be impressed and moved.
Who attributed words to Jesus of Nazareth, some rugged fishermen from Galilee ? A tax collector? A couple of political zealots?
You don't have to be interested in Scripture like me. But if I asked you
to take say the three chapters of Matthew 5 - 7 could you specify which
words you suspect were "attributed" to Jesus from the other words?
Who did the attributing of those words?
What was the possible motive for attributing such words to Jesus?
Again, it doesn't require you to be interested in Scripture, just interested in realism verses bluster.
@sonship saidIt doesn't take a nobel prize to work out that we exist Sonship. Given that we exist, obviously the universe is such that we may exist. That's the end of the argument. I daresay if I was to spend some time checking out the context and leanings of the quote you give from this 'avowed atheist' I'd find out that he understands this and was being taken out of context or was answering a leading question. If he's a nobel winner he's obviously not stupid enough to be gulled by the nonsensical argument that has dazzled your faculties.

@sonship saidWhy do you feel the need to adopt patronising and barely concealed insulting phrasing when considering the views of people with whom you disagree, Sonship?

@avalanchethecat
You're bothered because you make a claim about words attributed to Jesus fictitiously but demonstrate no logical scheme describing how this happened.
You won't even give an example of this and that and those words you're sure Jesus never said. The "Its all beneath me" defense when challenged is not impressive.
@sonship saidLol, I'm certainly not 'bothered'. You've repeatedly told me how and what I'm thinking and you've not been right yet. I am curious as to why you feel a need to attempt to mischaracterise what posters who hold different views from yourself say, and to attempt to patronise and insult them. Does it stem perhaps from a lack of confidence in your own beliefs?

@avalanchethecat
Whatever.
The conspiracy of people inventing words for Jesus is pretty flimsy.
Ignoring the fine tuning argument is too.
@sonship saidConspiracy of people inventing words for Jesus? Conspiracy?! Lol. Inventing words for Jesus? smh

The 'fine-tuning' argument is completely invalidated by the Weak Anthropic Principle - unless you can in some way demonstrate that it is possible to 'tune' a universe? Can you do that?

I'm not sure what "smh" means. But the way you used it, it might be my response to the nonsense above.
As for my confidence? Did you forget? You're the one not confident that you really should commit to atheism's unbelief in God and in His word.
I still consider myself atheist at the moment, but I'm not committed to disbelief.
Long ago I found out that if I had 10 lives to live on earth I wouldn't want to waste even one of them on being an atheist.
Its good to know I'm home.
Hope your search ends well so you find have the confidence of commitment a man should have concerning the truth.
@sonship saidIt means 'shake my head'. Which part of the 'nonsense' did you disagree with? Are you really surprised that the universal constants are such that you can exist?

There's no lack of confidence in my position regarding the existence of a god or gods. Currently, I find no significant evidence to suggest that there is or are any, or at least, not enough to commit to belief therein. But I realise that my knowledge of the universe is limited, so I accept the possibility that I may be wrong. I'm comfortable and confident in that position.
I'm pleased for you that you 'know' you're home and that you feel you have found truth. I hope that one day this truth allows you to greet the world and everyone in it - not just those with whom you agree - with love in your heart rather than bitterness.
@avalanchethecat
smh.
I can greet my fellow world citizens and speak of these things too.
I wasn't born a Christian.
I can empathize with those who like me once did not have the Spirit of God.
I don't think I need to write more to you about the many voices of intelligent people recognizing the uncanny good fortune against huge odds that the universe is fine tuned as if it saw us coming.
I understand it spells trouble for the belief that there is no creating intelligence behind the universe.
