He did more than that. He labelled his beliefs delusional.
When he doubts his faith, he entertains the thought that his beliefs may pertain to things that are not true: i.e. delusions.
-Removed-I think you are incorrect to believe such things. I think it is born from a desire to have answers to all the big questions of where we came from, to make the world a less scary place. I don't think delusional is helpful in this context, though other atheists may consider you as being self deluded. Faith, I think, has to be factored into the equation.
