@Suzianne Well he may have an explanation on his thoughts of what he thinks that scripture means and that is fine. But I think that scripture is pretty clear on what it says......

2 Peter 20, 21
20  "For you know this first, that no prophecy of Scripture springs from any private interpretation. 21  For prophecy was at no time brought by man’s will, but men spoke from God as they were moved by holy spirit."

Your church has repeatedly attempted (and failed) to put a date on the 'last days' which seems ignorant of Matthew 24:36-38.

What I said was choose Jesus or choose "not Jesus" which is a much larger options list than just "not choose Jesus". I knew what I was saying when I typed it. I'm suspecting you read it the way you did because you thought this was the same as what you've been hearing, which is not what I said. So you yourself were viewing what you thought I said through your own prism of social conditioning.

I'm not your typical "my way or the highway" Christian like others here.
Point taken. It's all about the prisms...My own particular prism was balls to the wall Christianity when I were a lad, at some point I threw it into the 'used prisms' bin, and have tried to do without one ever since. The wider/deeper issue of free will, who has it, does anyone have it, is something best not gone into now, it's a bit too philosophical for a Tuesday afternoon. Hope you're having a good day.

@Ghost-of-a-Duke

Proverbs 4:18, 19 says: “The path of the righteous ones is like the bright light that is getting lighter and lighter until the day is firmly established. The way of the wicked ones is like the gloom; they have not known at what they keep stumbling.” The light of the sun gets brighter and brighter from dawn until the “day is firmly established.”

Would you explain this scripture to me please?

Professed Christians [with some integrity], do not go around asking atheists to explain scriptures. You should be ashamed to do that. What you should be doing is posting the scripture and providing and explanation, which can lead to a discussion.

I dont need to explain anything. Any verse I quote, I provide my opinion on what it means. I dont need to explain verses you quote. Its a simple principle which seems to escape you.

How about you explain why you are not ignorant of Matthew 24:36-38 in you attempts to predict the last days?

Clearly your light hasn't been bright enough. (Hence the failed predictions).

Thanks for your input. But..... if one does believe in the Bible then one would have to acknowledge on some level on those things Jesus described have all been happening on a level never seen before in our history. All one would have to do is look at the world wide reports that are published for all to see one any of those signs that Jesus expressed.
But sadly he said ...[text shortened]... undreds will die every year for relying on their opinions and ignoring the warnings given.
Right?
The black death in Europe was much worse than we are seeing now. Estimates run btw 40 and 60% of the population succumbed. Many thought those were the last days, too.

In 2198 there will be outbreak of swine flu that will wipe out 42% of the world's population, whereupon the remnants of the JW church (numbering 38 and living in a caravan park in Wigan) will announce triumphantly the date for the end of the world.

It is clear from your posts that you have missed the point of Jesus's instruction to ..watch .. This word means to be ready.. READY, for the return of Christ and for the Kingdom of God. It does not mean to watch world events, and try to foresee and prophesy about the dates and times of the return of Christ.
You have completely missed the mark, and one would think that after over 150 years, and hundreds of false prophecies the JWs would learn and change their doctrines which are patently false.

Here is the passage.

Mat 25:13-18 KJV  Watch therefore , for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh.[/b]  (14)  For the kingdom of heaven is as a man travelling into a far country, who called his own servants, and delivered unto them his goods.  (15)  And unto one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one; to every man according to his several ability; and straightway took his journey.  (16)  Then he that had received the five talents went and traded with the same, and made them other five talents.  (17)  And likewise he that had received two, he also gained other two.  (18)  But he that had received one went and digged in the earth, and hid his lord's money.

Note, I am not asking , neither am I interested in your opinion. Of course you are welcome to state what you think.

Watch means to be ready ... For the Kingdom of heaven is coming. Then the parable of the talents is presented by Jesus as an illustration of what it means to watch and be ready . It means to keep the commandments and do what Jesus preached. The one who did not do that was cast out. Jesus elaborated further in the very same chapter, about who it is that is going to enter the Kingdom of God and it is all the Good Samaritans, and all who keep the commandments, many of whom have no clue about world affairs.

So far in this thread you have presented nothing resembling these words of Jesus .. not a single word about being ready. All you have tried to do is to promote the false prophecies of the WatchTower. Pitiful.
