@ghost-of-a-duke saidIf He was unforgiving the world would be a different place. If you are blind to the grace he gave in the OT, and His long suffering you read the scriptures with both of your eyes closed to miss that.
The OT God is a tribal God demanding constantly to be worshipped and profoundly jealous and hotheaded.
Or if you prefer Richard Dawkins (The God Delusion) 'The God of the Old Testament is arguably the most unpleasant character in all fiction: jealous and proud of it; a petty, unjust, unforgiving control-freak; a vindictive, bloodthirsty ethnic cleanser; a misogyni ...[text shortened]... genocidal, filicidal, pestilential, megalomaniacal, sadomasochistic, capriciously malevolent bully.”
@kellyjay saidAssuming that is true.
He created everything and everyone, He gives everyone everything we need for life, He is the moral law giver, the maintainer of all things. You seem to be giving everyone a pass on all the evil men did.
He created everything : Like diseases that cut short lives and inflict untold suffering.
He created everyone : Like the gunman who killed 50 in Christchurch.
He gives everyone everything : Tell that to the starving.
He is the moral law giver : And the immoral law giver.
He is the maintainer of all things. : You should see my garden!
@wolfgang59 saidThis world is under a curse for the things we did, we are reaping what we sow. You are blaming the one that has been trying to turn our lives around, instead of accepting our part in the evil in this world.

@kellyjay saidYou feel we have to "accept our part in the evil in this world"? What was your part in the gunman killing 50 in Christchurch? What was mine? What were the 50 victims' parts in the evil of the gunman killing them in Christchurch? What was your God's part in the gunman killing 50 in Christchurch? What did you "sow" with regard to that mass murder? What did I "sow" with regard to that mass murder?
This world is under a curse for the things we did, we are reaping what we sow. You are blaming the one that has been trying to turn our lives around, instead of accepting our part in the evil in this world.

The 50 people murdered in Christchurch are dead because your God put them "under a curse"?
@fmf saidI believe each murder no matter who was killed by whom is human on human crime. You think some are worse than others? God's part right now is giving us room to repent before its to later. Unlike us He sees every single crime done in darkness out of the light of day from the rest of us. He knows it all, and it is only through His long suffering you get your next breath for you part of this life, as well as me.

You think you are without sin, spotless before a Holy God? Deny Him if you want, but you have your being within His creation, you draw your next breath with His air there is nothing about you that set you apart from anyone else. We are all guilty before God, and only God can save us from the guilt we share. It was true in the OT and it is true in NT, and if you think God changed between the two, you share the same lack of knowledge a few others here have too.

@sonship saidEr, survival?
@Ghost-of-a-Duke'Humans have succeeded as a species primarily due to their ability to cooperate. This has led to highly evolved intelligence which has enabled societies to develop moral codes that help safeguard this cooperation...'
Why is "succeeding as a species" a good thing ?
You don't think I feel survival is important when God is off the table?
@ghost-of-a-duke saidSo, you think God is petty, unjust, and vindictive? You have failed to see God in scripture for who He is, you actually divided Him into two different ones, instead of realizing there is only One. He is just, and as such cannot let evil deeds go unpunished, punishment isn't being vindictive it is a righteous act. You think God by holding us accountable is being unfair, unjust? You want what out of God, that He overlook the evil we do, and then that is better how, now He ignores evil instead of giving retribution for the sins done? God is good, just, and merciful at all times and will not act other than as that. No one can just ignore evil and be good, no one can be merciful without justly dealing with the evil that was done.
Right back at you sir, if you fail to see all that petty, unjust, vindictive stuff.
