What a great quote.
I used to parrot this a bit before I relised I didn't know what I was talking about.
Then it struck me, (after some contemplation), and it rippled through my life.
Nothing would ever be the same again...

Just so you know, smoking pot can have long term consequences contrary to popular opinion. 😛

All I wanted to point out is the oxymoron part of your statement, which is like: This statement is a lie!

I have to admit - I'm not quite sure what your point is. Are you merely preaching relativism or situational ethics, or what? Please elaborate a little what the benefit of this insight has been to you - how has it changed your life.

In peace,

CJ

It showed me the relativity of 'truth' at the time. And since.
My point could be anything. I thought it an interesting point to start a thread, if you don't like it just let it slide.

"Truth" is not relative. "Truth" is absolute. It is only the opinions as to what is "Truth" that are relative.

I came out of the 60s as a young college student, head swimming in moral relativism.

Then I became a follower of Jesus. Derek Prince's book on Foundations pointed out to me Romans 1:2.

"But we know that the judgement of God is according to truth upon those who practice such things."

"WHAT?" I thought. It had been so engrained in me that just about everything was relative. "If it is good to you it is good for you." This was the early 70s !

But the word of God said " ... the judgement of God is according to TRUTH ...".

I count this as the beginning point of recovery in my life from a near total world view of relativism.

I read between the lines as

'I came out of the 60's after taking too many drugs, lost the plot and found religion'.

Okay. Didn't find your short-hand to be particularly self-evident. I also don't find self-evident just how the quote "showed [you] the relativity of 'truth' at the time. And since" and what you think about the quote.

'Truth is absolute'. Is this a meaningful statement?
