Believing in Him means a sincere, committed and self-sacrificing belief where one accepts Him as their Lord and Saviour and lives for Him. That, and the indwelling of God’s Holy Spirit in a believer, is why good works will naturally follow saving belief and faith in Christ.

“Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.”

(John 6:47)
What exactly does it mean to accept Him as their Lord and Saviour ?

What belief do you think Jesus has in mind in John 6:47?

To me it means recognizing His authority over me as the Son of God and living for Him by turning from sin and by seeking and doing His will for my life as imparted to me by God’s Holy Spirit within me.

It doesn’t mean never sinning because we all will occasionally sin while we are living in the flesh. But it does mean recognizing how bad sin is and repenting and seeking forgiveness for our sins.

Belief that He is the Son of God and recognizing His authority as such.

Should have added it also means expressing love for God by regularly spending time in His Word and prayer and loving thy neighbor as thyself. Christ said on those two commandments hang all the law and prophets.

Cite passages from the gospel that Jesus preached where He said this.

In John 6:47 you plucked out a single verse from a long passage of related verses that goes approximately from 6:25 - 6:65. What point do you think Jesus is making in this passage?

First, do you recognize that sins include bearing false witness (lying,) coveting, being angry with someone and looking on a woman with lust in one’s heart?

If you believe you have passages you can cite, then do so. If you don't have any, then say you have none.

Our disagreement may be over how we are defining sin. That’s why I asked you that question. Do you acknowledge that coveting, bearing false witness (lying,) being angry with someone and looking on a woman with lust in your heart are all sins?

The second thing I would say is it’s odd you’re confining your request to the Gospels. If you acknowledge Jesus Christ is God and was in the bosom of the Father before He came to earth in bodily form, then you acknowledge that God’s faithfulness and promise to never leave us or forsake us are as much from Jesus Christ as they are from God the Father.

Third, the entirety of the Bible, not just the “red letters,” are “God breathed” and written under the inspiration and guidance of the Holy Spirit, who, as the third part of the Trinity, is as much God as God the Father and Jesus Christ, His Son.

Do we agree on those three points?

Are you saying the passage you identified contradicts verse 47?

If not, I’m not sure what the point of your question is.

What is your interpretation of Jesus’ words in John 6:37?

“All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.”

How do you interpret Matthew 12:31-32?

“Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men.

And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come.“

The Apostle John was referred to in the Gospels as “the disciple whom Jesus loved” and was (obviously) the author of one of the Gospels.

What are your thoughts on these verses from 1 John?

“If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

(1 John 1:8-9)

It's really simple. If you have no passages that you can cite, then just say so. If you do, then cite them.

None of your questions have anything to do with whether or not you have passages you can cite.
