@dj2becker saidYou seemed to be insinuating that I was "angry, "bitter" and "hateful" because of me supposedly being a "handicapped" person. And this was instead of discussing the topic ~ which was "born again" ideology and the notion of "humility". It's a textbook example of deflection/ad hominem.
Since when is a question an ad hominem?
@fmf saidI did not insinuate that you were handicapped. I asked you if you were. Asking someone a question to which the answer is yes or no is not an insinuation, neither is it an ad hominem.

@dj2becker saidWhat does me being or not being a "handicapped" person have to do with "born again" ideology and the notion of "humility"?

@dj2becker saidThis: You’re not disabled/handicapped by any chance? That would explain a lot. And then this: I am simply pointing out that you spew an awful amount of vitriol against a faith you used to hold dear for decades. What happened FMF? Did you fully recover from the near fatal motorcycle accident? And then this: I am simply trying to understand where all your anger and hate is coming from. This is pretty much a definitive ad hominem.

@dj2becker saidIt would never occur to me to use "handicapped people" [why do you use that word - it's as if it's still the 1970s] to try to land an ad hominem blow on someone's chin in a discussion on a Spirituality Forum.
you seem to have a tendency of twisting people's words to mean that they hate handicapped people.

@fmf saidYou are entitled to your opinion. I was simply doing a sideline investigation of my own, if you want to believe it was an ad hominem, I'm ok with it. You can believe what you want.

@dj2becker saidIt was a textbook ad hominem of a most clumsy and creepy kind.

@dj2becker saidIf Christian beliefs give someone solace, a sense of purpose in life, and a way of coming to terms with the inevitability of death ~ plus if it helps them to behave in a morally sound way ~ I think: good for them and each to their own. I also support diversity and the freedom of religion as long as it does not impinge on the rights of others or lead to illegal or immoral acts. I live among Christians - I always have - many of the people I love most dearly are Christians - I work with them, for them, I support them, and I have respect for their spiritual beliefs. None of this rules me out of discussing religious issues on a forum such as this.
Which version of the Christian faith does FMF have complete respect for?

@fmf saidDo you have the highest respect for people who believe in eternal torture and salvation by grace through faith?

@dj2becker saidPeople can believe what they want - I respect their freedom to do so - but if these kinds of things are up for debate on a forum such as this - I am going scrutinize them and share my perspectives. I believe that "eternal torture" is morally incoherent. Some of the Christians I most love and respect in this world believe in it.
