Originally posted by NosracNot sure how I can get this across, but for an atheist, a belief in god IS a complication. It's unnecessary. You disagree clearly, but there's no easier way to explain it.
If you don't want to complicate things,
as you put it, why not belive in God? He created you.
Why not believe in Jesus? He died for your sins.
Why not believe in the Holy Spirit? He is sitting beside you.
I don't need to believe in a God.
In fact, for my atheism this goes further - I don't want to accept that a god might be possible. I find the notion of a supernatural being abhorent. If I actually thought I lived in a world that allowed such things, I might consider removing myself from that world.
(As you can see the depths of my belief are as strong as any religious persons.)
My response to your questions is simple: why believe in either of these things? They are unnecessary for me to go about my life. I have no need of these things.

Oh, and by the way, the ark was not built
like a boat.
The pictures, from Mt. Ararat, show a very large
rectangle boat with one window.
Stop unbelieving, and read your own science books
about the ark!

Even if the theory does not describe 'reality' it can still remain valid until scientificaly proven wrong. For example the 'true reality' may be that we are all just computer programs, or we were all created yesterday by God. But a book stating that to be the case will not invalidate a theory which deals with events from 100 years ago.
Yes, the second bit wasn't sarcasm.
I beg to differ (be it a tiny technicality): it is our perception of the universe that defines science. As much as it is part of the scientific method to remove human error and getting as true an image of reality, it is hardly infallible -- a point which whitehead totally ignores when drawing the battle lines: ...[text shortened]... lly the butt of jokes in a few centuries) against the insignificant bug of untenable religion.
In fact I fully agree that science is about our perception of the universe. Where I often disagree with you and others on these boards is your claim that our perception and its interpretation is fundamentally flawed, that when I make a measurement that disagrees with your Bible then the measurement is wrong.

They found a house halfway up a mountain and are claiming it's Noah's boat?
Apparently if you look from space when the light is coming from the right direction you can see a shape that looks vaguely boat like. No one has gone to look at the site by actually going there, or if they have they haven't found anything. Looks like BS of the highest order only believed by the gullable.

The whole ark found on mountain by looking from space is utter cr@p. You either have no shame or no brain

I know exactly where I'm going.
And I'm extremely happy with my destination.
