More than likely a symbolic one, it doesn't change that other events and places are, or are
not. You can think whatever you like about a literal lake.

I don't know about the 7 headed beast, if its real its a spiritual creature if it is not it is a
symbolic one. Yes, Hell is literal, it was created for the devil and his angels.

dive, you can hide from that truth all you want, find a million examples that are symbolic it
will not change that somethings within scripture are very real.

Is it up to you which things are real and which are not?

I responded to a comparison to a movie you idiot. And by the way, the likes of Shakespeare and other authors and titans of literature have compared human existence to that of a play, or a novel; a movie by today's standards. In discussions involving God's omniscience and subsequent foreknowledge and foreordination, mankind's story is often liken ...[text shortened]... s a drama that is unfolding, then I can't help that. I'm not sure why you're lashing out at me.
“Lashing out” is an inapt metaphor for my criticism of your continuation of the movie comparison. But I suppose the metaphors for the end times and horrors of Hell that are already in the Bible could use an update. Perhaps a multiplayer first person shooter game would draw more eyeballs but nobody would truly appreciate the deadly serious Torments of Hell like they do with the summer movie comparison. It’s such a realistic comparison, even the popcorn munchers watching the torments get a nod.

I wonder if the treatment of Hell as a movie or play finds its best audience among those who consider themselves saved, with nothing to do beyond enjoying the show and dreaming up tortures for other people to experience. It should appeal to wannabe sadists everywhere.

Nope not any more than I can change the color of the sky because blue isn’t my favorite color. Our likes and dislikes don’t come into play which is why I have asked for scripture not opinions! We could do the same argument with Heaven as well, or Jesus’ birth.

I'm sorry that in a conversation with someone else and politely following along with the subject matter he introduced, that I somehow triggered your fear and anxiety when it comes to the possibilities of a real hell. My best recommendation for you would be to repent of your sins and accept Jesus Christ as your lord and savior. That would be a good start.

Thanks. I see it as a clear intention of many RHP posters over the years to unapologetically trigger fear and anxiety in nonbelievers. In this case I critized you for what I took to be the opposite, that is the trivialation of a truly horrible depiction that can be made of a possible afterlife. In effect I prefer to deal intellectually with a worst case scenario of Hell, rather that suspect I am confronting only a sugar coated version. You triggered my objection to the movie comparison, as too weak. I am sorry.

1. Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden.
2. The Tower of Babel.
3. Seven-headed beast in Revelation
4. Jacob's ladder
5. Eternal suffering in hell.
6. The birth of Jesus in Bethlehem.
7. The book of Job.

To me, all of the above are non-literal and symbolic metaphor. How do you, Kelly, determine what is literal and what is not literal? (when clearly the Bible, at times, is making use of metaphor to get its message across).
