why does everyone make such a big deal about god? what has he done for anyone? He has done absolutely nothing for me and it will probably stay that way forever. so why even believe in him. what makes you think that people dont just tell you that there is a god just to get you to pray or act decent?

Don't worry! According to the Old Testament, if He hasn't done anything for you so far, after that little outburst, you can at the very least expect a thorough smiting is on its way for you in the not too distant future!
So take heart, my friend!

Originally posted by sjegI wouldn't call her questioning an 'outburst'! I think God encourages sincere seeking, and even honors it. Psalm 91 is quoting God when it says "I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name. I will be with him in trouble. I will deliver him and honor him. With long life will I satisfy him, and show him my salvation."

Brings to mind another question: What in the world is God doing honoring me? I guess that's part of His nature of love!
Of course, even His love (in the sense of having a relationship) can't reach someone who doesn't turn his head far enough to acknowledge Him.

i still dont understand why everyone seems to think that you need to believe in god to live a good life. i dont believe as of now and i am living a good life. not believing cant change the outcome of your life can it???
Believing in God isn't really about leading a good life. It's much more about having a relationship with the one who created/designed you.

I do think that asking "what has God done for me lately" is kind of missing the point. Assume for the moment that God does exist. Isn't it more likely that the creator should be asking YOU what you've done for HIM lately? After all, you were created for him, not the other way around. I don't believe in God just so he can 'do nice things' for me.
