How could have it been sonship? He almost always takes individual verses out of context from disparate sources, cobbles them together with a narrative of his own creation. It allows him to pretend that the Bible supports his beliefs.
BTW, what did you do for someone to thumb down all your posts regardless of content?

This is exactly the problem. There is no transformation from a life of sin to a life of righteousness. Instead they say that Jesus makes them righteous ... whether or not they are in fact righteous, they are made righteous.
Humans cannot live a sin-free life because we are still in the flesh and in a sinful world. The amount and degree to which we sin can certainly be reduced - and drastically reduced - but the idea that we will never sin again is false.
Bear in mind that being angry with someone and looking at a woman with lust in your heart are sins, as is coveting and bearing false witness.
You’ve been repeatedly bearing false witness against me and yet claiming you are living a sin-free life.
“If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.“

An individual who has not stopped sinning cannot produce "good fruit". See Matthew 7.

True disciples of Jesus are made free of committing sin. See John 8
“If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
You've taken this verse out of context:
1 John 1
5 This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all.
6 If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth.
7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.
8 If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us.
1:7 is conditional. Only those who "we walk in the light, as he is in the light" have fellowship and are purified. One cannot both continue to sin and "walk in the light, as he is in the light".
1:8 is referring to those who "walk in the light, as he is in the light" who might claim that they have never sinned - who might claim that they have no previous sins that would need to be purified.
To read it as a declaration that it is impossible for anyone to stop sinning is nonsensical. That's not what it actually says.

This seems to be really prevalent amongst Christians.

Bear in mind that lying is a sin, coveting is a sin, looking on a woman with lust in one’s heart is a sin and being angry with someone is a sin.
Our hypothetical Christian who died at the age of 80 after accepting Christ at the age of 20 didn’t commit any of those sins for 60 years?

This is ridiculous and a gross misinterpretation of the verse you’re citing. So someone who still occasionally sins and repents afterward cannot shovel snow from his elderly neighbor’s sidewalk for free? Cannot donate money to charity? Cannot volunteer at a soup kitchen? Cannot help a motorist stranded by the side of the road?
The definition of good is totally and completely free of sin?

It’s amazing that atheists spend so much time trying to run down Christianity and never do the same when it comes to Islam, Judaism or any other religion. The disbelievers and God haters focus all their energy on Christianity.
You ought to be a bit embarrassed about trying to do this. Let's hope it's just a kind of affected banter seeking a kind a cheeky, ironic fun and not how your mind really works.
I had long discussions and debates with a Hindu who used to be a prolific poster. If there were Jews or Muslims posting here, I am sure there would be plenty of discussions and debates about what they believe.

That said I don’t have perfect recall of who said what in the forums but I definitely get the vibe that there are God haters in here.
