The type of fundamentalist Christianity I grew up in was an intellectual straight-jacket.
Thinking for one's self was highly discouraged. Conforming to the official church position was expected.
In Sunday school, the teacher would ask questions, not get quite the answer they wanted, and prod further with leading questions until they got the student to say what they wanted to hear (thus programming them).
I'm sure the teachers thought of it as leading people to God's truth.
-Removed-It might come as a surprise to some but many who are caught up in these cults or fundamentalist religions have a uneasy feeling at the back of their mind and they live with that for their entire life. It is only when one person stands up and says 'I had enough of this BS', then they are likely to follow. They did not look at me as an outcast for too long... only for about 20 years 🙂
