@philokalia saidYes, a very Socratic method.
To be completely fair... Isn't this a pretty universal teaching tactic?
I know I have received endless instruction that was all premised along these lines.
It's often thought of a way to teach in a clever fashion, right, and I think it is even partly based in the very ungodly Rogerian humanism: the notion that we all have the answers and the right feelings & thoug ...[text shortened]... , everyone has human dignity," into a conclusion very far from the original point of the discussion.
@moonbus saidOk moonbus. Whatever you say. Just don't ever bring up religion issues if you want a relationship with your sister.
@Eladar
You are so mistaken, about so many things, one hardly knows where to begin with you.
First of all, while I cannot speak for FMF, I do not hate your religion or your imaginary God. It is your confrontationally aggressive attitude I disdain.
Secondly, I tried to engage you on a rational level several times here, and you called me an "arse." You show ...[text shortened]... ateful to my parents and my sister, who had the good sense not to break up a family over this issue.
Speaks volumes that you can not bring it up but I suppose you are too blind to see it.
@moonbus saidI don't "hate" Christianity. I do not "hate" Christians.

I think in many instances, branding ideas and opinions and people as "hate speech", "hate", "hateful", and "haters" is merely an attempt to silence dissent by poisoning the well, and in very many cases it is little more than an assault on "free speech".
@moonbus saidAs a Christian, I wanted to thank you for your participation in this thread. Too often, people who talk about their own lives, offering personal information, are attacked for that participation. I'm just sorry that, this time, it was a misinformed Christian (self-professed) that chose to go on the attack. I'm a Christian, and yet I find no fault with your postings here, because it's clear that the interactions between yourself and your sister were between people who care for one another, and tolerance in such interactions is key. I find it intolerable that a Christian can stand here and accuse you of "abuse" and "oppression". To me, this is ridiculous. This is why Christians are increasingly seen as intolerant and judging, because far too many of them are just that. Many find it far too easy to treat their neighbor not with love, but like dirt, just for being human. I guess that's what happens when they start feeling that it's "okay" to be hypocritical, despite Jesus railing time and again against the hypocrites.

As a Christian, I feel the need to apologize for this person's behavior in this thread. We're not all like this.
@suzianne saidI remember you making derogatory and mocking remarks about what you speculated as being the character of my still-Christian family members when I tried to talk about my post-Christian relationship with them. I tried to offer some personal information and you went on the attack. So I find your words to moonbus here rather stinky, if you don't mind me saying so.

@philokalia saidThe tactic itself is valid. It was just, in my opinion, done a bit over-bearingly. Even when someone got the general gist of the answer, the wording had to be adjusted. Also, thoughtful answers were not acknowledged, but instead "corrected".

I don't generally look at spiritual topics as having only one correct answer. It isn't logic or mathematics.

@suzianne saidThanks for weighing in here. In our correspondence, you have always been a conscientious Christian and a thinking one, too. No need for you to apologize for Eladar's bad temper; his bad temper is nothing to do with his Christianity. He'd be just as bad-tempered if he were a Hari Krishna or a Zoroastrian. What he needs is anger management in this world, at least as much as salvation in the next.

I don't see Christians in general as being particularly more intolerant than anybody else; I judge each person on his or her own merits.
So, would you like enter the discussion and tell us whether you came to Christianity through a special experience, or were born and raised into it, or after careful and studious research into alternative spiritual paths, or via some other route?
@eladar saidTo the person who thinks I am sitting in darkness: just because you can't see where I am does not mean I can't.

@fmf saidAfter being the target of your own attacks, as well as divegeester's continuing attacks in other forums, against my personal information, I find your "indignation" to be remarkably pathetic and false. And what did I even say? Something lame, like "I bet they're so proud of you now", or something? I wouldn't exactly label that an "attack".

Funny that you get the knee-jerk thumbs up for your post. I defy any of your "admirers" to come up with what I actually said. In no way does it excuse what you said to me for weeks after I posted my personal info. Have I re-posted any of my supposed "attacks" since then, as you have?

@suzianne saidFor all we know he could have multiple accounts with which he likes his own posts. It wouldn’t surprise me if he did.
