People die when they run hard at each other from a distance and their heads knock. Someone has said that US Football was almost banned because the number of deaths.

They don't start in a scrum, like some other contact sports played with no helmets.

They crash into each other over and over from a distance full speed.

Smarten up, stuffed-shirt.

It's obvious he's not reading anything except what he wants to read.

The action is not continuous in American football. Each play is several seconds, then the ball is reset and they line up and do it again. Also, players swap out on offense and defense, meaning they come back in fresh. So football players have the strength and energy to run at each other at full speed.

Why do we need pads (not "padding" ) and helmets, Howardgee? This is why: http://youtube.com/watch?v=qAS5fMSgWHo

Yeah, an American made a thread titled "Are Americans just missing the point?"

And? Aren't they?

Phlab was the only one that said that he didn't see the point and he didn't care. All the rest pretended to claim that there was NO point in it.

That's a pretty ridiculous position when you put it that way, isn't it?

Going back and reading the first few pages in this thread, Phlabbabit is the only Ameircan who "attacked" football, and I think that was primariliy in jest anyway. There are a lot more people attacking American football.

Can't we just agree, both are great sports, one is just clearly more popular globally?

Of course!

My point was that Red Night's whining about Europeans being anti-American are ridiculous, especially when the anti-Baseball and anti-American-Football rants came in response to anti-football rants.

Check again Palynka. And try not to make arguments that are so easily refuted.

I think YOU should check again.

First poster to answer was Phlabibit.
3 billion flies like crap, doesn't mean I do.

USA doesn't care for a sport where you fake an injury when someone gets near you. It's played on a huge field and you would be lucky to see 3 goals in a game.

Most Americans don't understand that 'football' IS the most popular sport in the world and why. I do, but I couldn't care any less about it. It's too slow, too low scoring, and too boring.

If you like sports, you can't separate getting it with liking it. It's the same thing. At least, I'm not defining getting it as 'understanding the rules'.

I understand the rules of curling, but I think it's an incredibly boring sport. I don't get it.

I think that what Red Night is getting at, is that this thread started with rooktakesqueen (a poster who routinely goes into threads that are exclucively about an American sport, only to deride the sport) suggesting that Americans believe the World Series is a bigger event. And I can assure you that no knowlegeable American sports fan believes that anyway; they just personally prefer the World Series.

Anyway, it's silly to even compare the two events. One occurs annually, and features the two best teams in one league; the other is played every four years, by the best national teams in the world.

I like curling... and don't know why! I don't really get it either... has something to do with getting your stone near the center, or setting some up as blocks.

Ok, I admit that i don't know about the history of the thread starter, but Red Night's comments about European provincialism are irrespective of him as they are directed to all Europeans (particularly those that posted on this thread).

If he wants to accuse rookwhatever, just go ahead with it, but leave me out of it.
