Talking about Oklahoma state is like talking about Indiana in the Big Ten. Sure, you can't be certain they won't win it all or go to a major BCS bowl, but you are 99.9999999999999% sure they won't. In fact, you SHOULD beat them if you are a contender.
[b]Go back and read what I said. You said Oklahoma State wasn't good a few years ago, so they could not be that good now. I said (using your logic) that Ohio State was good a few years ago, but they aren't now. You can't judge a program by their past history, rather you should judge on the talent they currently have.
Originally posted by scacchipazzoI place value on track records in terms of programs. You either have people running these programs who know what they are doing or you do not. As for Utah, I admit, I did not give them much respect, however, as we see this year, they were a flash in the pan. You might even say a fluke as where a team like Florida is expected to be in the top 5 as is USC year after year after year.
By your own reasoning if they were not so good a few years ago they should not be good now. They are not good this year so they should be bad forever! What's Utah done but stunk it up this year. Utah was no more a co-champion that Boise St was in 06! I see it more the way the voters do. TX has steadily improved. Credit where credit is due! I was sure they would move up a spot in the polls!

But we were talking about this year. I said I thought Oklahoma State would beat Ohio State this year. They will both probably be tiered about the same come bowl time so it isn't that far-fetched that they could be paired.
Originally posted by whodeyWhy do you think those track records come about? The coaches, and the winning tradition causes the best HS and juco athletes to choose those schools. As long as the players stay healthy and the coaches do their jobs, a well maintained program can be held for many years.

Hopefully the BCS will pair up all the top ten against each other so we can get som clarity in the end. Assuming the current polls stand to the end I would love to see Alabama Vs. TX, Florida Vs. TCU, Iowa Vs. Boise St., Cinci Vs. Oregon, Georgia Tech. Vs. LSU. Pairings solely on matchups not standing excepting TX-Bama.
Originally posted by scacchipazzoIt would be nice but it will not happen... The reason is that only the championship game is frozen. The remaining BCS bowls go on a rotational lottery system where the bowl selects a participant as do each of the other bowls, then each bowl selects its second participant. They make their selections based on how they expect that game to draw attendance for that game. For this reason, some lower ranked teams may be selected in lieu of the higher seeded team because of fan base following or geographic affiliation. It is all about money. The bowls command it for the sponsorships that support them. Take away the economics and you take away the games...it is that simple.

Originally posted by shortcircuitOne can dream! I wish they would do it to lay some issues to rest once and for all. Of the non major conference teams I have some respect for one is TCU because they seem to produce great players. Hopefully at least a couple of the non frozen matchups happens. I would not mind seeing OSU-OSU and the closer one to TX beat the snot out of midwest one!

I gotta say, I am worried about my Buckeyes come Saturday facing Penn State. Last year the Buckeyes were beating them in the 4rth quarter by a score of something like 6 to 3. It was all defense. Then TP inexplicably turns the ball over and loses the game. Now I know what your thinking, this is nothing short of shocking for a QB who turns the ball over EVERY SINGLE GAME HE PLAYS!! I would feel better if they just hiked the ball to a running back every single play. At least it would spare me of having to watch TP try to throw the ball. Its like watching Michael Jorden try to play baseball. Its just one more square peg being pounded into a round hole.

Originally posted by shortcircuitHe is no running back. Perhaps a wide out, but not a running back. In fact, perhaps that is why he is a QB. They simply have not come up with a position that suites him as of yet.

The painful fact of the matter is, I have two more years of his chinanigans. Ovey!!
Originally posted by whodeyHe is the next wildcat NFL pro who will sputter ni the bigger limelight. I see a future for the following QB's: Michigan's, Iowa's, Mich St's, OU's, USC's, TCU's. All the others are wildcatters at best! Even Colt McCoy is doubtful but may prove me wrong! He has the most potential of the second tier. Great college QB, but I don't know how he'd fare in the pros. Tebow is in this same group.

Here's our local blog for Duck Football. It's a great blog with a lot of links to other places and a great source of PAC-10 information if any of you have an interest at all in that:
