If there were a sixteen team playoff, would it matter that the #1 team Ohio State lost and now won't win the big 10? Would it matter that the highest rated team in the Big 12 lost. Of course not, this week shows exactly how important it is to play each week in college football in the non-playoff system. Sine Nebraska and Ohio State are virtually ass ...[text shortened]... eams, there is just no reason to attribute any importance to their losses in the playoff world.
I could really give a flip if OSU lost or won. I don't follow OSU. I've missed the MNC a couple of times in the past few years because I don't care if OU isn't in the game. I think most college fans are like me. Sure there may be a passing interest in who wins if their team isn't in it, but really the outcome of the game doesn't matter.
Creating a 16 team play off would keep more interest because more teams would be in it further into the season. If your team is in it, great. If you have some tie into the game (such as conference interest like the SEC, then fine). Otherwise you are looking at a game that most people do not care about.

I still dub you IDIOT.
So what else do you want to discuss??
I really feel for you and anyone else who actually has to put up with you.

So if you were an Ohio State fan you would not have cared about losing if you did not have shot at the MNC? I doubt most OSU fans would agree with your assessment.
Don't you just shrug off losses anyhow? Most years a one loss Big XII champion has a very good chance of playing for that MNC.
College football is not just about the MNC. College football is dominated by regional loyalties. If playing for a MNC is all that anyone cared about, then only a handful of teams would have a following right now. There would be no such thing as a Texas fan right now. The fact that all it takes is one victory after two consective losses to bring the short horn out of the woodworks just goes to demonstrate my point.

Originally posted by quackquackHow many teams have a realistic shot at a MNC? If they've been winning them as of late, then the fans think MNC or nothing, but those teams are rare. Most fans know that their team can have a very successful season and not win the MNC.
It is not just about liking to win, it is whether or not it makes a difference in the season as a whole.
The only thing a play off would do is take the decision of who plays out of the hands of voters and back into the hands of the teams playing on the field. If we had a play off system, it would be impossible for a team to go undefeated and yet not be NC.

OU got lucky they held on for the win this year.
OU didn't beat Texas, Texas beat Texas.
Take you win, shut up, and we'll beat you next year.

The ACC used to be considered a minor football conference, but then Florida State came along in the 90's and was the best team. Your type of rigid, dogmatic "thinking" would have deprived the best team back then of playing for the National Championship.
I will when they join a real conference and play real teams week in week out.
