Round of 16: England vs Germany

Well, England performed pretty much exactly as I expected against a strong, fast, and well organised German team. Poor Gareth Barry was left floundering on his own in the HUGE gap between the lines as the attacking England players stayed forward or slowly meandered back when they lost the ball.

So far, Özil is pretty much my favourite player in the tournament. He has so much vision up front and when he was subbed Germany appeared to lose most of their venom.

I think most England fans would not be surprised by this result. I think it's time for a much heavier quota system to be introduced in the Premier League, or things are just going to get worse. Forget about the Champions League. Barcelona are going to win that for the next five years anyway.

Very well played, Deutschland.

...and to rub salt into that wound, the female German fans that I saw were much prettier too.

Definitely. I'm almost willing to be a German myself! But then I remember we are going to win the cup and all is well... 😛

Lack of width, playing too far up the pitch with two slugs as central defenders and a waste of good players. I don't get it. Capello is one of the top coaches in the world and yet he couldn't see the obvious? Strange.

Despite Lampard being denied a pretty nice goal, Germany deserved it by a country mile.

Why? They have a good group of players (even called 'golden generation'😉 but they just didn't perform.

That "golden generation" stuff is just lowbrow English media hype and nonsense. Milner, James, Defoe, SWP, Heskey... not golden. Bronze maybe.

Not even metal at all. Try more like turd-like material. Undeserving of playing on the world stage. At least Korea, USA and Mexico played hard and went down swinging. Bested by better teams. Although the better team won England's was a shameful loss. Capello called for a strategy leaving his slow defenders out to dry against speedier, younger German attackers. Ozil is the real thing. England's perfromance exposed the EPL's lack of quality, Capello's blindness and lack of saavy picking players. Rooney is a has been. No midfield. Failed to even dribble around the ref. It looked like children playing men. Seen better effort in little league girls' soccer than England showed today. No heart! Lots of whine and roses!
