(CNSNews.com) –Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano said Friday that the Obama administration will push for “immigration reform” by giving the estimated 14 million people who are in the United States illegally “fair pathway to earned legal status.”
This is the next step in Obamas plan to "fundamentally change America"

Driving 14,000,000 de facto Americans out of the country is probably just too impractical and would make for very ugly politics. I think Scotty70 is right about the need to do this properly with background checks etc.

My objection to this, being a legal immigrant to the United States, is this:
Why is it that people who came here illegally can just get a green card while the legal immigrants have to wait, or can't get their visa extended and has to go back home?
Imagine this: you are a physicist, come here, spend night and day doing endless research, contributing to the scientific community in a significant way, and applying for a renewal of visa or a green card so that you can stay in the U.S. Your application ends up in a very clogged up processing center, and you are waiting for months for that application to be granted. Meanwhile, a illegal immigrant whose contribution is just working at a restaurant in town, gets the green card due to amnesty, and therefore a green card. You get to wait months more, and when the letter finally comes, it says that you didn't prove sufficiently that you are an person of oustanding talent. Back to Ho Chi Minh City.
In terms of policy decisions, this equity is often not a issue, but it does, on some level, seem unequitable.

(b) Second generation U.S. citizen, or
(c) Third generation U.S. citizen.

And, from where and in what circumstances your ancestors went to the U.S.?

Originally posted by FMFI think you missed the point... Sam is under the impression they won't be nationals in the true sense. Only those born as Americans can complain, in his view. These new nationals should be thankful and cease forever to have an opinion on their country.
But if they benefit from the amnesty and become citizens, why wouldn't they then be "nationals" with all the rights and responsibilities that come with it?
