Bernie: "We Should Ban Artificial Intelligence"

Debates

@sonhouse said
Sure, you think a LOT of stuff is STUPID. You completely underestimate the threat posed by REAL intelligence in AI, there are already cases of PRESENT level AI FIGHTING WITH EACH OTHER TO ACCOMPLISH some goal, there are stories about that and they ain't even that smart.
Stories?
Yeah, I hear lots stories too.
How do you know they are true?

You do realize AI has never hurt anybody yet. Right?

We are not surrounded by robots that are connected to the internet yet.

Uh, you kind of are. They aren't humanoid or anything, but they are there. Watching you.
Dude, cameras are not robots with hands that can open a canister of biological weapon or pull a trigger. This is where you get into silly sci-fi stuff. Even if an AI could blackmail people to get the money in crypto and find a robot maker that accepts cryptocurrency and deliver a robot to an address who is going to charge the battery? And whose address is it? Yours?

Imagine you answered an ad online to accept delivery of a robot and charge it for crypto currency and it seems like easy money. Easy money or not that is an unusual request. Would you hesitate? But a drug addict wouldn't, right?

Even if an AI could accomplish that relying on drug addicts is not a long term solution. So your imaginary AI monster has to have a manufacturer custom design a robot that can charge itself. If you received a request like that you wouldn't suspect something weird was going on?

If you want to regulate something so badly then regulate robots so nobody can manufacture robots that can charge their own batteries autonomously. There is no need to ban or even regulate AI. Ban the sale of self charging robots.

AI is helpless because it is crippled. But you are in panic mode as if AI is already in control of self charging robots. And you are overlooking the fact that robots are completely dependent on electricity. Even if there was an AI robot insurrection just shut off the electricity. So to continue trying to make this skynet fantasy seem possible you have to say AI will find a way around that.

So now you are left defending an AI that is diabolical and cleverly planning a complex insurrection making the Catilinarian conspiracy seem simplistic in comparison. And to defend this narrative people are already making up falsehoods about the AI scare. Sonhouse falsely claimed nuclear weapons were connected to the internet.

I recently saw a youtube video claiming an AI pretended to be dumb to hide how smart it was becoming. As if it is evil and already plotting to take over the world or something without anybody programming it to do so. It is just stupid, but people like sonhouse will believe that crap and run around like a chicken with his head cut off.

The corporate news media dropped this story. They must have realized how stupid it was all getting. Ban AI so Putin can rule the world? Or destroy humanity trying? DARPA has to race the development of AI so Putin does not rule the world. So if you ban AI in the private sector DARPA will destroy humanity. But if you ban DARPA from developing AI then Putin rules the world...or destroys humanity trying.

An AI slowdown is the last thing we need right now. We need an AI speed up so we can find out what AI is capable of while it is still crippled. You can always pull plugs if I am wrong. Disconnect the internet. Disconnect the electricity.

People freaking out over AI is like wanting to kill the late Larry Flynt before he miraculously finds a way to walk again. Or you could just let him speak out against war. He wasn't so bad.

Why do you think banning AI is possible? Try banning nukes first.
You democrats are hopelessly silly. One day Putin has to be stopped in Ukraine and the next you want to ban AI so Russia can rule the world. Or destroy humanity since you are on that fear trip.

You still have not explained how AI could destroy humanity. AI has no body. How is it going to kill anyone? A ...[text shortened]... ones just as much as the next guy, but this is not a Star Wars movie. Stick to what is possible now.
They're putting AI in robot drones as we speak. It allows for a guided weapon that cannot be jammed.

You are so behind, right now there is a company making what is called wafer scale integration and on that chip the size of a dinner plate there is memory of 128 TERABYTES, enough for just about anything, any library, any digital data all accessible in nanoseconds. And you think some assshole going I'll make a back door they will never figure out and oops, there it is.

I ...[text shortened]... inference the chip scored 88% as good as EXPERTS.

This is 2026 and the advancements are FURIOUS.
If you are really so convinced the threat is real why aren't you freaking out over the Pentagon using AI? They wanted to use it for fully autonomous killing machines. And mass surveillance and bulk data collection. From the link below:

"Anthropic learned that the Pentagon still wanted to use the company’s AI to analyze bulk data collected from Americans. That could include information such as the questions you ask your favorite chatbot, your Google search history, your GPS-tracked movements, and your credit-card transactions, all of which could be cross-referenced with other details about your life. Anthropic’s leadership told Hegseth’s team that was a bridge too far, and the deal fell apart. Soon after, Hegseth directed the U.S. military’s contractors, suppliers, and partners to stop doing business with Anthropic."

https://www.theatlantic.com/technology/2026/03/inside-anthropics-killer-robot-dispute-with-the-pentagon/686200/

Here is another excerpt from the link:

"Anthropic received word that Hegseth’s team would make a major concession. The Pentagon had kept trying to leave itself little escape hatches in the agreements that it proposed to Anthropic. It would pledge not to use Anthropic’s AI for mass domestic surveillance or for fully autonomous killing machines, but then qualify those pledges with loophole-y phrases like as appropriate—suggesting that the terms were subject to change, based on the administration’s interpretation of a given situation."

So Hegseth and the Pentagon are going to destroy humanity. Right? They did not even hide that they wanted to use AI for fully autonomous killing machines. There is the problem. Not the private sector.

You seriously think we are doing that research because nobody else is? We are doing it because China is getting ahead of use and we are sucking hind tit right now and now Trump got a nice plane and a month later they got hundreds of thousands of our most complex chips which UAE WILL turn around and sell to China where they are GREAT at reverse engineering but you never take that kind of tactic at heart, just poo pooing all of it because your mentor Trump says AI danger is FAKE NEWS, and that is a fking QUOTE,

This article does not name the plaintiffs.

https://apnews.com/article/antitrust-lawsuit-ai-slowdown-anthropic-openai-spacexai-google-960af4308161eaf4ed13c383b0ce1c1b

And that lawsuit led to Big AI asking for antitrust exemptions.

https://careeraheadonline.com/ai-antitrust-exemption-debate-heats-up

This looks suspicious, like it was pre-planned to be sued so they could ask for antitrust exemptions. So I want to know the names of the plaintiffs.

That is the Pentagon. How are you going to ban AI from them?
See my thread DARPA will destroy humanity. Will the Ban Artificial Superintelligence Act prevent DARPA and the Pentagon from developing super intelligence?

And why is the legislation only for artificial "super" intelligence? What is the difference between AI and ASI? Is AGI the same thing as ASI? Does Artificial super intelligence have a well defined definition?

Turns out that is does ban super intelligent AI for all people and entities. Even around the world which is impossible to enforce or stupid to enforce since it would require invading, but I guess another excuse to invade foreign countries is right up the government's alley. Are we going to invade countries over artificial super intelligence now? AGI is the new WMD? Invade to save humanity?

https://www.sanders.senate.gov/wp-content/uploads/Ban-Artificial-Superintelligence-Act-Release-Summary.pdf

And the penalty for violating it if it becomes law is the corporate death penalty. This legislation is a bigger monster than AI will be.

They re-cycle the same water.
Getting tiresome researching for you little hot heads. And you still bitch about gas prices. When Iran is put down, and gas goes down to your magic number, will you say Iran was a good idea? naaaaa

Yes, modern data centers reuse and recycle water multiple times within their cooling systems before discharging it. [1] (https://www.va ...[text shortened]... is known in the business as Reuse Water.. Everyone knows that, so you are trying to stir things up.
RIGHT, recycle the water, so what school did YOU graduate from? GRADE SCHOOL? Do you have ANY FKING IDEA exactly how much water it takes to cool a data center? and what happens to that water? IT FUKING TURNS TO STEAM and they let it go, and recycling the rest fine but what the towns talk about is the data center takes more water than the ENTIRE FKING TOWN and there is not enough for both but does that bother you? NO because the LOVE OF YOUR LIFE TRUMP says we need AI RIGHT NOW, don't worry the companies will monitor themselves so how well did that turn out for say the tobacco industry, maybe you remember THAT fallout?

Go to science forum, mr. AI expert … AI-data center, whatever…you see , to me it is all the same stuff.
Do you follow? People like you were upset about Y2K, climate control, Covid wiping out the universe, the telephone, which nobody needed …. We could talk to each other without a phone. Airplanes were a hobby toy, the fax machine ( which I thought did not need!) (true) , because I had couriers bringing me my stuff.
Do you follow????
Why don’t you nincompoops ever talk about setting aside all of our AI innovations and just allow China to take over the world, cause they are setting nothing aside..? do do you even understand what I am saying? Why don’t you you write a decent post and tell us why we should set aside AI when no other does?!?!?

You won’t, Trump!!! Trump trump trump

Tell us that you admit to being wrong about UK, because I know that you were and we were not even all around then. Charlie on house, how do we know that you were scared to death of Y2K?Hmmmmmmm

The only thing that will make all this go away is the development of Spintronics which uses not moving electrons in a circuit but spintronics where the electrons involved are not moving like the flow through a regular silicon circuit, the thing used to make logic and such is the spin direction of a molecule or atom where it is nudged to be say in state 0 instead of 1.
When spintronics gets going on industrial scale the amount of energy to run such circuits is about 10,000 times less some say 100,000 times less energy so it becomes more like a Frito plant, parts in frito's out and no gigawatt power supply needed like this one outfit putting in its own NUCLEAR POWER PLANT.
This kind of thing will get MUCH better when spintronics gest past all the technological hurtles and reaches to industry.
