Suzianne and I have been dancing around Freedoms, or the losses thereof, with the advent of Democratic agendas. (the "Restricted to One Car' thread). I thought that this is serious stuff, she and I being polar opposites. I wrote to her the attempt of Obamacare to restrict our freedom to have our own personal healthcare insurance, as an example. She implied that she has had no loss of Freedoms. I then realized that this subject could use its own thread, and easily found a website to delve into. Everyone have at it!!!!
YOU will not BelieVe how many threats are listed..... And note that as it goes along, it keeps us up-to-date with even the most RECENT attempts of govt control of our lives. It is several years old, prob started with Obama, but constantly updated.

If your healthcare needs are fully met by a single-payer system, what "freedom" have you lost? The "freedom" to pay higher premiums?
Republicans dupe their followers into thinking any threats on corporate dominance is an attack on "freedom". The only "freedom" threatened here is the ability for insurance companies to fleece people who need healthcare out of every last dime.
@vivify saidForget the Individual Mandate Penalty, Vivify. Whew. Anyway check out the other hundred threats, will blow your mind. The O'care was small potatoes.

Pick a fresh item in the list and try not to slam other posters about their emotions and feelings and "(sic) words".....can you just speak to the issues presented? Help. Republicans dupe their followers??? Whatever. I dont think that is in the list. Uhh oh, next you will go Trump on us.
@averagejoe1 saidListen chicken little I live in a mixed health care environment and can either go through the NHS system or I can go private if I feel I need to. Best thing is to get the NHS to do the initial diagnosis and then go to BUPA or some other provider if your flush and in a hurry.

I personally would not trust a for profit company to do the diagnosis, it could be like taking your car into a garage for a new tyre and coming away with new brakes as well.
@kevcvs57 saidBoth of you are Right. Obamacare example my bad, I thought there was a penalty mandate, so you win. And the' keep your Dr ' thingy, luckily crashed. OF course private is all ok now, as you say. Now how about the other actions of Dems over the years, eroding our freedoms? They are at that link.

@averagejoe1 saidHow about the freedom of a woman to be in charge of her reproductive rights ?

You asked for another item. There you have it.
All yours.
@averagejoe1 saidWhat is freedom?

Take healthcare as a prime example:
Is freedom the ability to choose which insurance you want? Which always ends up with the long term sick costing a lot of money to individuals?
Or is freedom that your health insurance is covered. End of. And you have the ability to expand yourself without worrying about losing your house because your partner breaks a leg or gets cancer?
The extreme right are always harping on about their freedoms.
Drugs, the freedom to unionise, the freedom to live where one wants, euthenasia, abortion, the freedom of not worrying about being shot, the freedom to drink & drive, the freedom of relocating finances for common purposes, free education, etc. are always exempt from the freedoms they want.
So, what are the freedoms the alt-right want?
The freedom to hurl abuse at people (claiming they have the right of free speech), the freedom of religious worship (but not Islam), the freedom to carry guns and sometimes the freedom to make as much money they want without regards to the methods.
The freedom to have no government interference (taxation), except to pay for an army to protect their property.
The freedom the extreme right wishes to protect is a very narrow definition of freedom. And it’s actually a wrong word they’re abusing.
They want narcissim protected.
They don’t care about freedom.

to eat or to buy insulin or to pay rent or to get that anual checkup you've been putting up for 5 years now.
americans are so damn free. the envy of the world. so many choices
whereas a canadian is... not free? how isn't a canadian free?
I don’t live in Canada and no I don’t know your issues. I’m speaking to my rights here in the U.S. as a citizen of this country. I don’t need or want someone making my personal choices and fortunately I live in a country that so far still supports that.
@mike69 saidThat's my point. The US is not lacking in "freedom and liberty" for its people. But the whiny Americans on the right claim they are becoming "oppressed" by the left. I'd like to see any of them last one week outside the US without crying themselves to sleep at night.

@Suzianne
Do you understand that I wasn’t speaking about you, your issues or wherever you live but what I expect as a free citizen in this free country.
I really appreciate your true insight and wisdom into the hearts and minds of the average American and the many living at or well below poverty levels. Not to mention the aid that still goes out around the world.

Oh really? Did you have a choice of what police force patrols your neighborhood? Did you have a choice of who builds your highways? How about what army defends your country?
"I don’t need or want someone making my personal choices"
And what are you even talking about? When it comes to healthcare what choice do you actually have? Your employers choose your healthcare provider most of the time. You can't go to the hospital of your choice.
"fortunately I live in a country that so far still supports that."
Majority of americans support moving to a universal healthcare system. Sooo, that's your ignorance talking.
Maybe you should learn a thing or two. About Canada and how they live AND about your own country.
