@KellyJay saidPresent law states the following:
They had a number that they were going to let in if reached then what?
"[a]ny alien who is physically present in the United States or who arrives in the United States (whether or not at a designated port of arrival and including an alien who is brought to the United States after having been interdicted in international or United States waters), irrespective of such alien's status, may apply for asylum." Id. § 1158(a)(1) (2018).
8 U.S.C. § 1158

In that case, Trump tried to deny any migrant who crossed at a point besides a designated port of entry the ability to apply for asylum, but the courts blocked that attempt based on the clear wording of the law. The border bill which Trump blocked would have given the President that authority IF the emergency authority was triggered by the amount of border crossings specified in the bill.
@no1marauder saidIllegally no, legally yes! That a hard concept to grasp?
So you want the "border closed" i.e. no one can enter or leave the United States?
@KellyJay saidDid you read what I wrote?
Illegally no, legally yes! That a hard concept to grasp?
Most of people who you and your ring wing propaganda outlets claim are here "illegally" actually aren't (at least those crossing now and in the last few years). Most are asylum seekers or under other legal provisions that afford that a lawful ability to remain in the US unless and until their cases are processed.
So yes, it's hard to grasp why you are so ignorant of this.
The border is "closed" to those who enter illegally and those who do are removed (it would be impossible to actually criminally prosecute them).
@no1marauder saidYeah, they change the status so it is all good, that same the way crime rates go low. Simply stop charging people for stealing it’s all good crime rates are down. You playing word games just highlights why that bill is not good.

@KellyJay saidThe law I cited has been in effect for more than four decades.

@no1marauder saidAnd the flood gates on the border have been opened since the current administration started.

@KellyJay saidA right wing fairy tale that gullible fools like yourself have fallen for hook, line and sinker.
And the flood gates on the border have been opened since the current administration started.
And still not a single actual specific proposal on what to do about this largely imaginary "crisis"!
@KellyJay saidOf course, immigration under the circumstances the US is presently under has a large net economic benefit, so attempts to discourage it are beyond foolish.

@no1marauder saidAnything can look good as long as you ignore the downside.

@no1marauder saidBeing willfully blind doesn't change the facts.

@KellyJay saidApparently you never learned what the word "net" means.
Anything can look good as long as you ignore the downside.
@no1marauder saidI know what murder and rape mean and people are being murdered and raped by those who should not be in this country, save for the desire of the democratic party who voted against a bill that would have kicked out those who committed those types of crimes. So you are defending those being allowed in, and keeping them here even after those crimes is trashing the whole country. Defending that speaks more about you than anything else.
Apparently you never learned what the word "net" means.
@KellyJay saidWhat BS.

You really are a lying, ignorant clown.
@no1marauder saidI'm not the one suggesting it is perfectly okay to have our borders open so every criminal under the sun can come in on the taxpayer dime. If that is being a lying, ignorant clown fine by me, I'll take that over what you are pushing.
What BS.
You really are a lying, ignorant clown.
