Sir Humphrey Davy discovered potassium.

And sodium.
And calcium
And chlorine.
And a lot more elements

He invented the arc lamp.
He invented the Safety Lamp for mining.

Faraday worked under him. (You've heard of Faraday ... a hero of Einstein's)

Seriously. If you haven't heard of Davy how many scientists have you heard of?
only the black ones.

thx for proving marerider wrong on only whites being recognized.

marerider lol

Biden is right; schools should teach what individuals of color like Latimer did and currently many do not.

Thanks Mott.
He might be right but, I wonder, what schools, individuals are to blame here. seems to me to be across the board as the Dems could have long ago pushed this. BTW I do agree that this should be more out there and attached to Edison etc but is it not much the same as who was the 1st man that landed on the moon. Most know that but who was second shortly after. Any error that Biden is pointing out is as much a Dem issue as anyone elses.
Why would Biden highlight Dems shortcomings.

What are you talking about?

@no1marauder YOU are the one asserting that African American who complete educational layers have lower grades than whites, not me.

I'm asserting it...? Meanwhile Universities are doing it, unless you care to
challenge that. No1, we cannot go any further in this discussion unless
we iron this out so we can have some common ground of agreement to wor ...[text shortened]... ablish an agreed to base to work with, there is no sense going

No. Quotas or set asides have been illegal for more than four decades. https://www.thirteen.org/wnet/supremecourt/rights/landmark_regents.html

And the subject wasn't college admissions anyway.

Thanks for that.

In Regents of University of California v. Bakke (1978), the Supreme Court ruled that a university's use of racial "quotas" in its admissions process was unconstitutional, but a school's use of "affirmative action" to accept more minority applicants was constitutional in some circumstances.

Now, are you saying that blacks don't receive "black privilege" getting into University?

Are you saying that black applicants have roughly the same grades and SAT
scores as whites, Asians, and Jews?

And although the thread is not about discrimination in University admittance,
it will explain some of the salary differential in the workplace, so this is important.

The idea that the US is marked by invidious discrimination FOR blacks is a particularly laughable right wing fantasy.

I've already shown sufficient evidence that blacks with equal credentials don't receive equal consideration for positions. I've shown that the income gap exists even for high school dropouts. You haven't responded to either of these facts.

The factor thar correlates most closely with SAT scores is family income, so in light of the data already presented it's hardly surprising that POC in the US have a median lower score. Why SATs should matter at all is questionable; they don't really measure "intelligence" and scores can by raised by test specific tutoring or course ( both expensive giving those with higher family income another advantage).https://www.cnbc.com/2019/10/03/rich-students-get-better-sat-scores-heres-why.html

So they are just part of a feedback loop that systemically disadvantages POC and serve as a lame justification for the discriminatory practices already shown to exist.

Really your argument is just the thinly veiled racist one that blacks are less intelligent than whites. You should be forthright enough to simply say so.

Blaming current whites for the wrongs of long dead whites is ridiculous.

Forcing current whites to learn history that really has no impact on modern life is also useless.

Move on man.
What has anyone done recently?

Besides vulgar rap music and complaining?
No one is blaming anyone but you. People are just putting the record straight if that’s ok.

Just white American ones I would think. His latest intellectual hero is Trump who invented a way of, you know, getting light into the body somehow and many many other great things.

Could you give a list of all these cities that have been "burned down"?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks in advance.
A leader of Black Lives Matter's New York chapter on Wednesday said the movement was prepared to "burn down this system" if the U.S. does not work with participants to enact real change.

"If this country doesn't give us what we want, then we will burn down this system and replace it," said Hawk Newsome, chairman of Black Lives Matter of Greater New York, during an interview with Fox News. "I could be speaking figuratively, I could be speaking literally. It's a matter of interpretation."

you're full of bull, to be blunt.

All I am trying to establish is that Afros do get into college with, on average,
lower grades and SAT scores than Jews, Asians, and whites. And that is an
indicator as to how their GPA in college stacks up.

Here:
For students applying to medical school with slightly below average GPAs of 3.20 to 3.39 and slightly below average MCAT scores of 24 to 26 (first data column in the table, shaded light blue), black applicants were more than 9 times more likely to be admitted to medical school than Asians (56.4% vs. 5.9😵, and more than 7 times more likely than whites (56.4% vs. 8.0😵 – see the group of four bars on the left side of the chart above.

https://www.aei.org/carpe-diem/new-chart-illustrates-graphically-racial-preferences-for-blacks-and-hispanics-being-admitted-to-us-medical-schools/
--------------------------------

Or this: (Brookings Institute)
... But in fact, among top scorers—those scoring between a 750 and 800—60 percent are Asian and 33 percent are white, compared to 5 percent Latino and 2 percent black. Meanwhile, among those scoring between 300 and 350, 37 percent are Latino, 35 percent are black, 21 percent are white, and 6 percent are Asian:

---------------

Here's another showing GPA average by group.
https://www.nationsreportcard.gov/hsts_2009/race_gpa.aspx
---------------------

And please don't tell me that GPA is not used as a determiner in hiring recent grads. It is paramount.

Now, I know that you have issues that I have not addressed. I will - providing we
can do step ONE.

If we can't, OR, you keep calling me a racist, we're done. Ok?
Just remember this, I did NOT gather data or make the rules, your liberal minds
did. I only demonstrate them.

"Afros"?

I've already discussed SAT scores which I believe are worthless reflections of existing inequalities. You haven't shown that blacks at every level of educational attainment have lower GPAs than whites nor have you shown that that would even matter given the studies showing discrimination against blacks. So, no, you dodging my points doesn't mean we have to have a discussion based purely on your evidence free suppositions.

Here's an interesting stat from a Federal Reserve of St. Louis study:

The study found that black families with one or more parents who graduated college held about one-third less the wealth than white families with one or more parents who dropped out of school as a teen.
