YOU!
Yes, I'm talking to YOU! Not the guy next to you. You!
Unless you're planning to stay in your house for the next 2 months and wear a space helmet or double N-95 every time you dash into CVS to pick up your anti-anxiety pills, you're going to be exposed to Omicron at some point over the next couple of months (if you haven't already). That's the bad news.
More bad ne ...[text shortened]... it for you. We'll see you in the Spring.
But for the rest of us, live your life.
That is all.
@jimm619 saidYup.

In other words: Get vaccinated. You might get Omicron anyway.
If you do, relax. Stay home, get treatment and wait until you feel better (like you'd do if you got the flu).
@sh76 saidAre those contagious diseases?
===Do you disagree with the WH assessment that "Vaccination requirements result in more people vaccinated and save lives."?===
Of course not.
I also think than trans fat bans and exercise mandates would decrease heart disease would save lives. I'm still not in favor them.
@metal-brain saidMasking has a greater negative effect than positive, watch the 16 min mark.
"That doesn't exist and you've offered no evidence it does"
You offered evidence when you claimed wearing masks made a difference. Now you are claiming it doesn't. You are contradicting yourself.

I don't need to watch it. We agree.
Jerome Adams and Fauci told the truth the first time when they said not to wear a mask because they did more harm than good.
@metal-brain saidOh, if only there was a way to collect more data, analyse it and update one’s opinions…

@no1marauder saidIf the point is that over-all numbers of deaths is the overriding consideration, that is irrelevant.
Are those contagious diseases?
If the point is not to fill hospital beds to take them away from other emergencies, that is still irrelevant.
If the point is to protect others, everyone has the ability to protect themselves by getting vaxxed and boosted. All indications are that boosted people are at extremely low risk from Delta, and especially from Omicron.
From Scott Gottlieb:
"In South Africa, we’re thankfully seeing a striking decoupling between new Covid cases and ICU admissions and deaths. Whether #Omicron is inherently less virulent, whether this hopeful finding is result of baseline immunity in infected, or a combination of both, is still unclear."
https://twitter.com/ScottGottliebMD/status/1472664060445569026?s=20
From Francois Balloux:
"Actually, more recent data from Denmark looks more encouraging. Based on a far larger sample size, Omicron hospitalisations are at ~0.6% vs. ~1.5% for Delta (~60% down)."

Incidentally, NYC is now is now seeing pandemic-record new COVID case tallies despite some of the strictest vaccine mandates in the world (unclear whether driven by Delta, Omicron or both).
The NY-wide mask mandate also appears to not be having any noticeable effect (though, of course, it will start "working" in mid-late January when flu season naturally begins to ebb).
The position that government-mandated NPIs and mandates are the primary driver of COVID is becoming more and more untenable with every passing day.

The vaccinated are spreading it. They are super spreaders. You should stay home and wash your hands often if you care about others.
@sh76 saidThis is typically dishonest and disingenuous; NYC receives more overseas travelers than any city in the US by a wide margin - it is hardly surprising that it would see a sharp rise in cases now that a new variant is spreading rapidly overseas.
