I could and often do pass for white, untill that is they hear my name,i was brought up in sutton near the coast of dublin,my father is a Libyan national,my mother irish,I suffered discrimination at both junior and senior school, not strangely enough by the children but by the teachers, yet ireland makes out its tolerant, i have yet to see all people being viewed as just that,a person.
@Catpower25 I don't know why you were downthumbed, you were stating your position, nothing wrong with that.
And I am Irish BTW, Grandparents on one side, McCart's, the other side Murphy,s.

I’ve done another up thumb to compensate
‘Tell the truth and shame the devil’
A society can strive to be as tolerant as it likes but they’ll still have racist haters among the populace.

They’re just jealous that one of their Irish lassies was seduced by a smooth talking man of color while they were spanking their monkeys

Why do you Americans insist on calling yourselves “Irish” just because your grandparents were? It’s not the vote-winner Biden thinks it is you know.

That might be one of the USs major issues. When you drill down a huge chunk of the country think that they are European, African Asian etc who just happen to be living in America.
I’ve got a Scottish mother, Irish great grandparents, Romany on my dads side and mongrelised Londoners on my maternal grandmothers.
I only ever see myself as British English or English British.

Another example that kids aren't born racist, or naturally inclined to be. But some how some of their brains shrink and by adulthood some of them just are.
It's very sad, I do feel sorry for these people who have become racist. It must be hard for them to ever be as happy as they were in their childhoods.

It's all a load of nonsense anyway, isn't it.
I did my DNA and I have DNA from almost all over the world. My dad always said he was Welsh, but turns out the man who raised him wasn't biologically his parent.
I think it's all interesting, but it's all stuff and fluff as winnie the pooh says.
This is one of the main reasons I like meeting people on line- we've no idea what race the person we're talking to is. We could guess from their flag but they might have a flag they feel affiliation to.
And what are we anyway, but a collection of thoughts and emotions.

Couldn’t agree more I have colleagues who are constantly trying to pin down their ancestry and it seems to take a sharp turn every six months or so, but A) what the hell does it matter, and B) ‘it’s a wise man who knows his own father’, especially from 5 or 6 generations back and beyond.
I really don’t get it when people claim to be Irish or Italian or whatever because they’ve found an Irish or Italian or whatever grandma in the family closet, I’d be amazed if their were any actual thoroughbred anything’s left in Europe and the USA. IMO

Because unlike France we don’t insist people abandon their ethnic and tribal affiliations in order to be American.

You don’t need to have pure Gaelic blood to wear green and have gang fights with Cosa Nostra.

Is Lennox Lewis also British English? How about Rishi Sunak?

I have no hatred for any race or creed, I do Identify as Irish & would hate to be thought of as anything else but i just find it sad that a name ,my name castigates me,makes me stand out i am proud to be me first,my race is less than secondary.
Well, to be honest, one can’t really claim Ireland has a history of tolerence… I mean the whole protestant / catholic thing…
And when you look at that, you see a history of persecution.
And being persecuted doesn’t seem to make a person more humane, but rather harsher towards others.
Racism is inbedded in fear and (perceived) mistreatment.
