@mott-the-hoople saidAgain....the Court (Alito) is saying it is not an issue that should be before SCOTUS. He is correct.
"But where we are right now as a society, outlawing abortion (in any state) doesn't seem workable or smart. '
false statement...who has "outlawed" abortion?
@mott-the-hoople saidNobody yet, but many states will do so this summer if the Alito opinion stands.

Women, especially, will suffer.
If the Alito opinion stands and Roe is overturned, there are disastrous effects we won't see until about 25 years from now.
There will be a generation of people whose parents either didn't want them or were unable to adequately care for them. These will be children bounced from home to home or raised in foster care, who will be at much higher risks for abuse and neglect, which can in turn result in higher crime rates.
When that happens, conservatives will find a way to blame everyone but themselves for the inevitable spike in crime.
@sonhouse saidWorse yet, these same 'people.' make it
@vivify
There will also be the loss of women from the work force having to stay home taking care of infants.
But that is what the right wing zombie repubs want, all American women barefoot and pregnant.
difficult for women to obtain 'the day after' pill.
@vivify saidHow amusing that you believe that any HRC nominee could have gotten through a Mitch McConnell Senate, one with larger Republican majorities after the probable debacle in 2018 and 2020.
It seems they are leaving the decision up to the states. Texas and Florida will be able outright to ban abortion.
Every liberal who patted themselves on the back for being too good to vote for Hillary are now seeing the results of their inaction.
Given Hillary's extreme unpopularity we'd probably have a Ted Cruz-ish President and a Republican Senate which was filibuster proof.
I'm quite surprised that Chief Justice Roberts publicly admitted the leaked draft was authentic. I expected the SCOTUS to not comment at all or complain about the leak without conceding it was an actual draft opinion.
If it becomes the judgment of the Court, it will really throw a lifeline to Democratic electoral chances this year and in 2024.
And I've read excerpts and it's as anti the Framers' Natural Rights philosophy as could be; the idea that persistent legislative trammelling of a right is relevant to the rights existence is a mind blowing repudiation of those basic American beliefs.
@vivify saidSmacks of the Chinese, who definitely 'dictate' who gives birth to whom. Creepy stuff, Vivify. And y'all say we repubs want to control. You have a curious mind, indeed. Are you one of the Forumites who never types the words Freedom and Liberty? Yes, you indeed are.

@AverageJoe1 says -
So the states decide. What has SCOTUS got to do with it? A real head scratcher.
-----------------------------------
Exactly. Even a crime like murder is adjudicated by whatever state has jurisdiction. Rare is it the feds.
@sonhouse saidWhat the right wants is freedom and liberty. Just how much control do you need, Sonhouse, to get things 'just right' for you libs. Are you aware of the different cultures in the USA? Snd you think we have race problems? Geez
