Just a question, for a friend, how often does a majority opinion become Law? And a supplementary question, we have 5 months till November. Will the base be just as riled as they are now and will that translate into greater Democrat control of Congress?

On Predictit, Trump winning the 2024 election is trading at 30 cents, which I think is too high. But for a fair bet, he should get at least 2:1 odds.

Well he's been going on and on about Trumpism's supposed great political appeal (which he absurdly blames on progressives), so I thought he'd take the bet without a second thought.

Even Politfact notes that this film is a joke.

"We asked True the Vote if it had turned over information to prosecutors and, if so, in which jurisdictions. In response, the group said it will release information in the coming weeks. State election officials in Michigan and Wisconsin were not aware of any such prosecutorial investigations by state agencies based on True the Vote’s allegations. A spokesperson for the Philadelphia district attorney said such claims were not referred to local law enforcement for investigation.

"The actual evidence hasn’t been made public so it's hard to evaluate the claims when the people making the allegations won’t share the information that is the basis for their claims," said McDonald.

"More than a year after the presidential election, the evidence has only grown that there was a secure election.

"The Associated Press found in December 2021 fewer than 475 potential voter fraud cases in six battleground states: Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.

"Have there been isolated incidents of fraud? Yes," McDonald said. That’s true in any election in which tens of millions of people cast ballots. "But is there any evidence of some sort of mass fraudulent voting of any sort? No."

I asked this elsewhere, 'cause this thread seemed to get bogged down on other stuff, so answer wherever you wish. What about the 9th Amendment? (I've been coming across a lot of people claiming that since abortion -- or privacy, for that matter -- is not an enumerated right, that it is not a "Constitutional right." It seems to me (as a lay schlock) that the 9th amendment kaiboshes that notion.)

I think the nullification may not be terminal for abortions at all. But I do wonder why interested parties have yet to start the process of passing a constitutional amendment. That would end all the drama, and yes I think it would pass.

As far as haves/have-nots, Jimm, that will be the case forever, I don't care *what* form of government you have that promises to end it, the rich always rise to the top. Always. It's in our genetic code for cripes sake lol


PS: I should also point out, Jimm, that in the not-too-distant future, a perfect "morning after" pill will be developed and that too will take all the drama out of it.

I'm perfectly aware of the history. But history is the past and anything can happen.

Both Bill Clinton's party in 1998 and GW's party in 2002 increased their seats in the House (FDR in 1934 did too). And the Senate class in 2022 is favorable to the Dems with 21 Republican and only 14 Democratic seats up for election.

There's six months until the election and the Republican lead in the generic polls is pretty small given Biden's low rating: Real Clear Politics has it only at 3.8%. There's plenty of time to turn that around esp. after the full impact of the overruling of Roe and the swatch of restrictive trigger laws are put into place.
