As stores, like several Walmarts, are leaving crime-ridden Chicago. Chicago is gong to open CITY-OWNED grocery stores!!
You will pay more, as city cannot negotiate prices, and shoplifting, the city will lose money, the citizens, the poor who are looking for food, will pay more. Then as this loss of money increases, city taxes will be increased. People with cars can go elsewhere to shop, but the poor are in danger.
I report, you ponder.

You utter economic moron a city is better placed than your average grocery store owneto negotiate a good price because of its purchasing power and obviously the city store won’t pay city property rates.
The city would do better to help the locals set up their cooperative movement whereby they club together to buy in bulk and get there groceries a whole lot cheaer with no profit margin to pay for

The point of a view of a socialist.

Cooperative movement? brrrrrr. Yes, let the citizens do anything they want to to set up a grocery store, but what has the city got to do with it? Government involvement? Brrrrrr. Next you will say that the store wont have to pay taxes..........but, if they don't, that is just less revenues to the city to buiild all those roads and potholes that you libs whine about. You never see the big picture.
Hey Kev, the bigger picture is what next the city gets involved in, in the business of a capitalistic society. You have got to feel a bit icky when regarding how great govt involvement is. Cuba and Russia are govt-controlled, do you like them just a little bit?? Yes, you do.

Some facts. You know, so people don't have only your brain farts to go on.

"Walmart announced Tuesday that next week it will close four poor-performing stores out of the eight it operates in Chicago"
It's a business decision to cut some losses, not "leaving Chicago"

" But the company was met with stiff resistance in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago and other cities from unions and Democratic opponents who worried non-union Walmart would drive down wages and hurt small businesses."
Poor Walmart. Having to deal with unions and someone demanding they pay their workers fairly. They are the true victim

This is going to be awesome!

The City store won't have to pay city property tax, so we'll see how that affects prices.
In the meantime, City Hall misses the tax revenue, for sure.

Will the City Store take action against shoplifters? Ahhhhh, it's *different* now, eh?

It is a business decision, duh. Why do you waste a line on that?

Four of their stores are 'leaving Chicago'. There were eight, now there are four. You into semantics, are you? If there were 8, subtract 4, that leaves 4 in Chicago. Four __________ .(insert your best verb here). No one is impressed with this silliness.

No, you are wrong. "Deemmmmmocrats are worried' about something.?? I am worried it may rain today. Somebody 'thinks' something about the Walmart decision?

No, WMart is not a victim, as you say. Your elderly aunts who live in one of those districts are the victims.

C'mon, Kev, pick it up. I answered each of your points.

Since the city is not 'in competition', having prices that will draw in customers, they will simply raise their prices to offset shoplift costs.
Have any of our libs here studied economics, etc?

Yet another capitalism-at-any-price thread. I'll use CAAP in future, less typing.

Are your sure because Joe has cited many small independent grocery stores over the years who have victimised by the state and different ‘cultures’
Without a profit margin and share holders to payoff the city run store will be just fine.
But my personal choice would still be a community run series of cooperatives who present as a chain in terms of purchasing power and the community get their groceries at cost price
You illiberal’s are just so effin dumb it hurts 🙄

We are dumb to eschew collectivism, communism?
Relax, Kev, you people of parasitic nature will win in the end. May come sooner than you think. Yesterday (y'all have something new everyday) you told the senate to dump gentility, aplomb, class, all that good stuff,,,,,how about basic good grooming....in our Senate. That circus freak Fetterman will wear a hoody with shorts.
The liberals will win by chipping away...chip, chip, chip.
I just buried 5 more kruggerands in my back yard. When it all hits, I will be among the socialists, thank god, while the masses will live under socialism. There is a difference, you know. Or, maybe, you don't.

Your comprehension of socialism, after being corrected over 136 times, is amazingly dismal.

Do you have earphones on telling you how to breathe? How the hell do you survive out there in the wild?

Edit: sorry, I know it was funny, but not worth two posts… no clue what sort of an evil glitch this is!

socialists governments are governments that control people, even on a private level.
How about America's POTUS forcing people to take injections?? WTF???
And you could go back to Obama care. Nobody ever read it but everybody had strong opinions on it.
