WOW! Finally!

HARROLD, Texas — A tiny Texas school district may be the first in the nation to allow teachers and staff to pack guns for protection when classes begin later this month, a newspaper reported.

Trustees at the Harrold Independent School District approved a district policy change last October so employees can carry concealed firearms to deter and protect against school shootings, provided the gun-toting teachers follow certain requirements.

In order for teachers and staff to carry a pistol, they must have a Texas license to carry a concealed handgun; must be authorized to carry by the district; must receive training in crisis management and hostile situations and have to use ammunition that is designed to minimize the risk of ricochet in school halls.

Superintendent David Thweatt said the small community is a 30-minute drive from the sheriff's office, leaving students and teachers without protection. He said the district's lone campus sits 500 feet from heavily trafficked U.S. 287, which could make it a target.

"When the federal government started making schools gun-free zones, that's when all of these shootings started. Why would you put it out there that a group of people can't defend themselves? That's like saying 'sic 'em' to a dog," Thweatt said in Friday's online edition of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

Thweatt said officials researched the policy and considered other options for about a year before approving the policy change. He said the district also has various other security measures in place to prevent a school shooting.

"The naysayers think (a shooting) won't happen here. If something were to happen here, I'd much rather be calling a parent to tell them that their child is OK because we were able to protect them," Thweatt said.

Texas law outlaws firearms on school campuses "unless pursuant to the written regulations or written authorization of the institution."

It was unclear how many of the 50 or so teachers and staff members will be armed this fall because Thweatt did not disclose that information, to keep it from students or potential attackers. Wilbarger County Sheriff Larry Lee was out of the office Thursday and did not immediately return a phone call seeking comment, the newspaper said.

Barbara Williams, a spokeswoman for the Texas Association of School Boards, said her organization did not know of another district with such a policy. Ken Trump, a Cleveland-based school security expert who advises districts nationwide, including in Texas, said Harrold is the first district with such a policy.

The 110-student district is 150 miles northwest of Fort Worth on the eastern end of Wilbarger County, near the Oklahoma border.

Nothing like an armed teacher, who is already on the scene, who has passed a criminal background check, who has received firearms training, and who has been trained in crisis management, to protect the children from some maniac who wanders in to do harm.

If the maniac never comes, the gun stays in its holster and concealed, and no one is harmed by the fact that the teacher has it. Get over it.

The question you should be asking yourselves, my dear American brothers, is...

Why wacos are shooting in the schools?

Nobody asks that because, funnily, the more wacos shooting at schools the more chances you have to push forward your beloved NRA's dreams.

Instead of searching for prevention through education, you search to kill more people.

Nice.

Are you aware that the NRA is pushing to get mentally ill people from purchasing guns by having their names on the instant check list? That waco in VA. should have been on the list, Since then the NRA has been working on the problem. Why would the NRA want More people killed with guns it would only produce more anti gun laws. I am concerned about teachers carring guns in class when i can't carry in a school zone while walking my child to school. Knowing what to do in a life and death situation takes constant training and practice. Hope non of these teacher has a bad day.

You should ask yourself the question: Why do wacos [sic] target schools? Answer: Gun free zone.

Are you saying that those who want their right to keep and bare arms are barbarians? What about those who go on these killings? Are they not closer to the definition of barbarian?

BTW, those who do want their right to keep and bere arms are more civilized than most I have met that don't want people to have guns.

Nah nah nah, there will always be wacos (sic, indeed) as long as nobody works on avoiding those wacos (sic!) to pop up like champignons in fertile ground.

Why do you think those people exist? Even worse, why those guys can get their hands on weapons?

A nutcase with a baseball bat would not do as much harm as with an AK-47, would he?

Why did this Finnish wacko, my Finnish brother, shoot and kill 8 people in a Finnish high school? Violence is not just a problem for Americans.

http://www.nytimes.com/2007/11/08/world/europe/08finland.html?ref=world

Furthermore, even if we had the answer to why people are violent, it does not mean that we should be unprepared to protect ourselves from them.

Nobody asks that because, funnily, the more wacos shooting at schools the more chances you have to push forward your beloved NRA's dreams.

That's a laugh. Any time something tragic like this happens in a school, the anti-gun crowd uses it to call for gun bans. Its the last thing the NRA wants.

Instead of searching for prevention through education, you search to kill more people.

A law-abiding teacher with a concealed weapon permit is not seeking to kill anyone.

I don't care who you have met and who you have not met, sister.

Your world is obviously very, very small... and surrounded by NRA people and barbarians. The people who go an kill are as barbaric as you are, for wanting to go eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth.

We are supposed to evolve, you know, not to go back. We humans have worked hard to create a world of laws, of development, of tolerance, and harmony. If we don't allow people to have weapons, then the nutcases will have to use bats, and bats don't kill like a revolver.

What guarantees ME that you won't go nuts one day, pull our your guns, and kill kids ina school?

ANSWER.

"American school shootings... 10? 20? 30?"

American school shootings are that high because the schools are 'gun free zones' which are really 'mass murder zones'

That is the most stupid idea I've ever heard in my life. You are sick.

American school shootings are high because of people like you, that make guns (a) easy to have, and (b) a cult.

Watch this...

And then respond, if you have a gun: How can you guarantee to me 100% that YOU won't go nuts and kill people in a school?
