It seems those delightful people in the tobacco industry are increasing the amount of nicotine in cigarettes, to make them more addictive:

I am sure that if the tobacco companies weren't forced to put government health warnings on every packet in big letters, they would still be claiming that smoking is safe.

It's not the nicotine but the tar byproduct of smoking tobacco which causes cancer.

The article is talking about the nicotine which makes it more additive, not what causes the cancer.

EDIT: Nicotine is actually poisonous in large doses though.

But perhaps those 'delightful people' are trying to eliminate the most dangerous constituent.

Who said anything about eliminating any constituents?

They are simply making it more difficult to give up smoking, to hold onto sales.

Why would anyone want to give up smoking?

Nicotine is what causes a lot of heart disease, I read somewhere that people who chew tobacco have the same heart disease problems. If you want good cigarettes then go to the Baltic countries, they have very few if any additives. Low tar cigarettes don't cut cancer risk, they are a con: http://www.ash.org.uk/html/regulation/html/big-one.html

The food industry and fast food restaurants are using the same tactics by adding the addictive flavour enhancer MSG (Monosodium Glutamate) to the foods they produce and serve.

And it's a known fact that firearms weren't profitable until some corporate money grubber figured out how to add the bang.

Nicotine causing heart disease?? , I don't think it is, do you have any back up for that?

Ok, it does say here that nicotine in cigarettes causes arteries to constrict. I always thought before that nicotine itself was harmless and it was just the other chemicals in cigarettes that did the damage.

A chemical screwing around with heart rate and blood pressure can never be good for your cardiovascular system.

Good. I always need at least two cigarettes to get a good nicotine high. I'd like them stronger myself.

Now hookahs are the way to go if you really want to enjoy nicotine!

Don't you understand that the purpose of a cigarette is to be a drug delivery device, and that that drug is nicotine? This is like saying making alcoholic beverages stronger is a twisted plot on the part of the alcohol manufacturers.

I really admire the Tobacco industry, they sell a deadly addictive product that cost too much and they have people almost wraped around the block to buy them. Now they even Gotten so bold as to now have comercials TELLING people not to buy their product, how big do your balls have to be for that one.

But as far as actual smoking concerns nothing pisses me off more than these anti smoking people trying to ban smoking. I dont smoke I quit. But you know what by now people know that ciggerets are bad for you they now this already, but for one reason or another they still deside to smoke exercising their freedom to do so. Now people are trying to get them banned for smoking in public places such as parks or private businesses like bars and resturants. First off who are you to tell any one what they can or can't do? And for those that counter with "Oh, Well second hand smoke is killing me, and everyone their near" you know what MOVE AWAY FROM THEM! its that simple folks. No one says you have to be near them but its a public area which mean that thy are intitled to use it too. As far as bars and resurants are concerned you act like you have a right to be there well you don't it is a private business you only have the privilage to be there so it would be up to the owner to make a desicion of what to do to THEIR business. If you want a resurant where there is no smoking go to another resurant or bar. If you need that special breakfast wake up sunshine breakfast and can't live without it well then it then becomes your decision to eat their no one forces you to be their but your own need for that particular food.
For the ones that are trying to force their wills and beliefs on the smoker well that is some good old fashion Facism plain and simple.
