The Founding Fathers (and Isaac Asimov) knew there might be characters like this.
Someone once said that the best form of govt. would that in which it did not much matter whether good or bad people got into office; there would be enough checks and balances to compensate either way. Trump is stress-testing this principle.

He sure is.

His taxes should be transparent. If anything at all good comes of Trump's mis-managed presidencies, it should be universal transparence for all political figures. And I mean total transparency: they should have no private lives anymore, financially speaking. If a Congressman or member of WH staff gives money to a prostitute and receives money from a brothel, the public should know about it. The public should see bank account statements, monthly! The public should know to whom their representatives are beholden. Jared Kushner coming back from Saudi Arabia 2 billion richer, for unknown 'services rendered' was outrageous corruption.

Trump has sent a letter to numerous foreign governments, demanding that they de-legislate their own equivalent DEI laws and anti-discrimination policies, or else America won't give them contracts any more. This represents:

a) a blatant attempt to interfere in other countries' sovereignty.

b) a total lack of understanding of the fact that other countries have different h ...[text shortened]... g you know, he'll be dictating to foreign countries that they have to re-write their histories, too.
?
Say I am a thoughtful neighbor and pay your son $10/week to put my newspaper at my front door. You look forward to his smiles, and you smile, too.
Tomorrow, I tell you that if you do not keep your yard cleaned up, I am going to cancel that 'contract' with little Jimmy.
Moonbus. Does this amount to Dictating? Would I be dictating?

a) am i interfering with him?
b) is his 'history' any concern of mine?

But the 4 years of Biden-hell prove that statement wrong. It did not stop the (insert about 50 things here) of his resulting presidency.. He thumbed his nose at checks and balances. Screw SCOTUS, etc.

Change cannot change, and stay the same. . Let it breathe. It will take several months of some pain, but instead of thinking how you hate Trump, think about possibilities of tariffs. Properly applied tariff rules could result in doing away with income tax. Tariffs were the first order of business when this nation was founded. That should tell you something.
Give it a chance. A LOT of smart economists agree with Trump.
We are paying out more than we are taking in. Theoretically we would run out of money. Although I don’t think that is theoretical at all. Trump is fixing all of that. Some of you probably want it done tomorrow, but it will take a while. Hang in there.

What a complete hypocritical tool you are.

Nothing (and no one) compares to Trump thumbing his nose at the judiciary, the legislators, his own cabinet, his own advisors, American citizens and the Constitution.

Biden is far from being the worst human on the planet, but wanna-be dictator Trump is in the top five. I won't even call him the worst, but top five? Hell, yeah.

For the love of God, stop with the blatant lies.

You're fooling no one.

You and sonhouse etal do not like Trump. Could you come up with just a symbolic number like, say 76, at the start of your posts, and we will all know that that means you hate Trump.
Secondly, you failed to say where Trump thumbs his nose as you suggest. Your lives are becoming quite generalized in your comments. You really never say anything. Hey, I guess the stock market will never come back again. I sure am glad I sold everything I have.
Something for your next chat at Starbucks. Tell your friends that Europe bases a lot of their economy on money received from the United States of America. Then you can say you can understand why Europe is upset. If I were Europe, I would be upset too.

The Tariff Act of 1789 was the VERY first act passed by Congress. This should give you a feel of how highly recognized their effects are.
So that you fractious libs do not get too off track, He will not cut Social Security Medicare or Medicaid benefits.. Do you realize how many posts have been written on this forum that he was gonna do that? We have tried to convince you that he would not do it. ….finally, you can see it quite clearly, since he just said it
yesterday.
You can still write about January 6, which is about all you have left.

It'll sort itself out, there are plenty of other countries to trade with beside America, in the end nobody needs America, and an isolationist philosophy is bound to fail in the end. There's a big hole in American finances, the national debt is spiraling out of control and something had to be done; Mister Trump has gambled on tariffs, it's a fair cop, let's see if it works.

That's exactly right. Bound to fail. The main reason that our extremely high deficit levels are still sustainable is because of imports. And the administration doesn't seem too keen on austerity measures.

It won't work, for many reasons. The rest of the world won't be bullied, for one. For another, tariffs are a blunt instrument. Take automobile parts, for example. Many autos made in the USA incorporate Bosch fuel injection systems or Bosch electronic ignition systems. These come from Germany. But Bosch themselves import sub-components from other countries (Taiwan or the Czech Rep.)--supply chains can be very long indeed. So calculating a tariff across multiple suppliers is no easy task. Is the tariff to be accumulated every time a component or sub-component or value-added service crosses a border ?? Or do you 'tax' only the last one in the chain before the USA port of entry ?? If the latter, then exporters will simply export to the easiest tariff-free country for some trivial value-added service (a bit of spray paint or a logo), and hey presto, tariff avoided!

Trump is too stupid to think these things through, and his advisors are too cowed to tell him.

All of you seem to overcomplicate, and thus misconstrue, the nature of tariffs.
We buy a whole lot more products from the EU than they do from us. When I earn a dollar, that is from money that was spent by someone else. When I spend a dollar, that becomes someone else’s income. If we all spend money internally, then incomes can stay level. But if money is being spent on things outside of the US, and not being spent by people outside the US on our stuff, our National income level will fall.
Either you have job losses, or wages have to fall, or you run what we have been doing (run a budget deficitwhere the government has filled leakage with govt spending,) deficits created by trade deficits, putting us more in debt. This trade move by Trump will encourage our citizens to buy stuff here. Ultimately this moves us to a world.Where countries give up as an economic strategy their idea to support their economy with the spending of the US consumer.

It is that simple.

Y'all's mascot here says I am hypocritical, but makes no case for it. Go figure.
But wait, ......is she/her not hypocritical for defending the EV torchers? The people who want to destroy the maker of electric vehicles which have been made quite popular for saving our climate????
Her, can you explain how you want clean air, but do not want EVs to exist, and you do not want Musk or his factories to exist?
I know that you will explain. You have a reputation in the balance.
