Tariffs are consumption taxes, so you're saying the average American should pay increased taxes to "pay off" the deficit.
I was asking him what to spend this new tariff revenue on. We can get thru this discussing would think. When they revenues from Tariffs start to pour in in the billions, what should we do with that money.

Give it to the unemployed caused by Trump's stupid trade war.

So our economy will crash. The DOW is only about 30 stocks, you know.. There are maybe 5000 stocks, some doing well. So economy crashes why? Because it is time for harmony among the economies on earth? Are you saying you are against balancing trade between countries? Leave it like it is? India charges 52% to the USA. Sonhouse wanna just keep that going? The other imba ...[text shortened]... f you want to tell us you don’t like Trump, could you just write 76 in your post and we will get it.
It is sure funny how in the BIden years the economy was BOOMING, and now 2 months of Trump and it is tanking, down some FIVE TRILLION.
And you think that is a GOOD thing.
Twisted. You really think somehow what, in ten years we will manufacture all that stuff made in China? You AND Trump are forgetting one thing: Things are built a LOT cheaper in China because wages are low.
So how you gonna be paying some dude 25 dollars an hour for a widget that in China THOSE workers get what, FIVE dollars an hour or less?
Trump has ZERO sense of what it takes to make manufacturing here.
Biden passed the chips bill pumping in some 500 BILLION into making chip plants here and now TRUMP is taking credit for even THAT.
And that will not make auto parts or TV's, it takes more than chips to make parts for either one, it takes plastic extrusions, rare metal extraction where right now CHINA has a hold on that and we see mines opening up here in the US but it is one thing for a geology team to say WE FOUND IRBIUM or Lithium worth ten BILLION and quite another to actually do the hard work of cranking that stuff out of the ground and refining it to something useful in batteries.
Which means no matter WHAT Trump does to force manufacturing here in the US we are STUCK getting lithium and other rare earth's that China has a choke hold on.

So it is NOT going to be some fairyland tale where we get 2 years of bad economic weather and then all of a sudden we are back, get that part? BACK to where we were in the Biden years.

Yeah, a REALLY great way to make America GREAT again.
Are you ready for what the economists are predicting, SIXTY PERCENT chance of recession.
Did your god Trump take THAT into account?
Now that the Dow has tanked, BTW, NOW Trump goes, NO BIG DEAL.
Which OF COURSE you just repeat.
It IS a big deal, TRILLIONS lost and you think Musk is doing a GREAT job finding waste? Like when he announced 18 BILLION in waste or fraud he found when in fact it wasn't BILLION, it was 18 MILLION. So lets balance all that out with what the stock market has lost JUST TODAY. TEN FLIPPING PERCENT IN ONE DAY.
And you go, EH, only the DOW, the rest of the universe is GREAT.
What a crock of BULL POOP.
Can't use the S word any more.

Get rid of him and his lying accomplices before it's too late.

This is a war for the soul of the US. Either it'll serfdom and Trump as a dumber and incompetent version of Putin or it'll be a democracy that needs some serious house cleaning (abolish the two-party system).
Soul for the US? It is for the soul of the WHOLE PLANET, what happens in the US WILL show up around the world and economists are now predicting a SIXTY percent chance of a recession here in the US and if that happens it WILL be followed world wide, for instance when US folks stop buying Japanese cars and Chinese TV's what do you think will happen to THEIR economies?
Spot quiz🙂

Never mind; you will learn the hard way
Whole world has tariffs on US trade but when the US does it to them it's bad.

But...but....all those countries he's announced tariffs against have had tariffs on US products for DECADES....so what's the problem?
And look at the per capita GDP of those countries.

Still don't get that the citizens of the country imposing the tariffs pay more than the citizens of the country the tariffs are on?

How can you be so slow and dim-witted?

Oh, wait. You follow Trump. That says it all.

Still refusing to learn.

It's a hallmark of Trump voters.

Get a RAM upgrade, because it's a complicated world, baby.

Every nation has a tariff regime that reflects certain domestic issues that are important to it, including the US. Country A may place a tariff on commodity X because producing X is A's main game, or the producers of X in A are especially powerful or weak. Country B may export X to A but have no reciprocal tariff because B likes the cut of A's jib or is especially dependent on getting lots of cheap, plentiful X. Maybe A doesn't place a tariff on B's exports of commodity Y or Z, but B puts a heavy tariff on Z. It's all to do with economic, social, and political considerations prevailing in the involved countries. This is the 11-dimensional chess of international trade. It's game theory, man.

Now, what the finger painting diaper-wearers in the Trump "administration" are doing is not 11-dimensional chess, not checkers, and not even tic-tac-toe. They used a dimwitted formula that even a 12-year-old would find a cinch, and indiscriminately applied it to dozens of nations without any nuance or thought. No normal country does that.

So now it's the US against the world (except for Russia and North Korea), and the US will lose for the many reasons already given in this thread that you didn't bother to read. Trump tried to bluster and bully the world, and the world did not blink, it retaliated. The world will now pivot toward trading around the US, leaving the US to become isolated, drained of its talent and treasure, and increasingly backward and flailing. All for no apparent reason. It proves that Trump is probably the worst "deal maker" in the history of the US presidency, because he doesn't deal, he attempts to extort and blackmail.

None of this will change your mind because your entire identity is inextricably invested in the Cult, but now you cannot say you were not warned.

If the rest of world would stand united against this and impose reciprocal flat tariffs on U.S. goods and services, Trump's stupid policy would be outed for what it is: unworkable. If each country tries to negotiate some wiggle-space for itself, this will embolden Trump to think he can get away with further unilateral measures, as and when he sees fit.

when you say "outed" do you mean "even the imbeciles most invested in his cult would see?" because we, the others, already know it's moronic.

Then why am I not worried?
One of you said you were down 6%. Then you apparently have no diversification...I mean, you have no bonds. If you had bonds, you would be down prob less than 1%. Trump and I recommend a new financial advisor. If you were not prepared for this, you run to your crowd and holler that dam Trump, he should have left things the way that Biden left them.

Sue, could I have one of your 'well said' responses.?

One should not misunderestimate wilful stupidity. It is still early days in the Trump presidency, and a rise in the price of eggs or a fall in the stock market can be easily explained away as a blip which will correct itself soon enough. Even if these figures do not correct themselves soon enough, Trump will simply double down, claim the figures are wrong, and present “alternative figures“. After that, comes the "we all have to make sacrifices to put right what Biden did wrong" excuse. However, at some point, even the most devoted supporters of Hitler’s regime realized that the war not going well; the allies were carpet-bombing every major German city to rubble and it was impossible to ignore that. There’s no telling whether America has to stoop that low, to cities literally crumbling and bridges falling down, before the most devoted Trump acolytes reach a similar level of misery confronting an irrefutable reality check. One would hope the GOP pulls the emergency brake and deposes him before the mass firings and wonky tariff-policy lead to horrendous failures of the infrastructure and economic chaos.
