@AverageJoe1 saidWhy are your 'givens' always flawed?
It is a given that everyone, like you, like me, have the same rights.
Please then re-phrase your comment that 'everyone (I) don't like do not have rights." I don't understand this comment.
None of your premises are ever true.
Start with a lie, end with a lie.
Did you ever pass a logic class?
@spruce112358 saidBut you have promoted the right to someone ELSE'S property. Whew.
Whenever you lose, you become absorbed and tell people to 'start another thread.' 😆
The right to privacy is right there with the right to property - subservient to the right to go on living.
Imagine someone said, "I'm dying out here!" and you said, "I need my privacy!" Absurd, isn't it? 😆

Maybe you Join in this question, written to Spruce, asking if an 'UN-indoctrinated' young person would agree with his philosophy, as he has set out above. Neither he nor I introduced Charter Schools. Don't know where that came from.
@spruce112358 saidActually, overwhelming evidence suggests Man is a naturally, altruistic social animal and would not have survived as a species if they were the greedy. selfish hermits Average Joe imagines us to be
You say it is "moral" to let Sonhouse starve because you foraged longer and better (and luckier!) than he did. And according to the morality of Nature "red of tooth and claw" that's true. Whatever animal forages better survives. We all know that is the Law of the Jungle.
But The Law of the Jungle also says that it is fine if Sonhouse kills you and take your coconuts ...[text shortened]... keep him alive.
Because we are a Civilized Society. You may not like it, but it is what it is. 😆
He needs a class in Anthropology which focuses on the group dynamics of hunter gatherer bands (which humans almost exclusively lived in for over 90% of the species' existence).
@no1marauder saidAbsolutely true. While arguments may ensue over the effects of "evil" participants, altruism among humans absolutely "makes us who we are".

@AverageJoe1 saidWe can revert to the laws of Nature any time you like. Then I have rights not just to some of your property but ALL of it - if I'm strong enough! 😆
But you have promoted the right to someone ELSE'S property. Whew.
Who is stronger - you or me? 😆
@no1marauder saidThe Laws of Civilization suit us. I think that is not an accident. 😆

@AverageJoe1 saidSure you would never have considered charter schools to be against democracy.

but they are. They want to completely revamp the ENTIRE US education system to KILL public schools, no matter you consider them good or bad, but making our ENTIRE system charter.
I imagine you would think WOW, a GREAT idea. Totally ignoring the fact it would be the basis for a new TWO TIER SYSTEM, the educated and those permanently outside the education system since they will forever be unable to pay for the charter education system.
All you have to do to see that possibility is to look at tuition costs for college and university, tens of thousands for ONE semester, forget the cost of say a 6 year program to get even a masters degree much less a Phd.
@spruce112358 saidWhat is SHouse in to. We were having a nice chat. Then we have marauder who, theoretically speaking, has trumped us with Natural law and tributaries thereof, I have lost my place. Maybe Sue gets us back on track. The last I remember, is that people in a life boat all depending on each other pulling their weight are all exactly the same situation as 340 million living in the United States.
The Laws of Civilization suit us. I think that is not an accident. 😆
@spruce112358 saidAlmost all "civilizations" were unspeakable tyrannies that trampled the Rights of the People.

Locke was close to being right when he saw in Man a built in set of rules we call the "Natural Law" and that we joined in societies and accepted rules imposed by society consistent with that Law. But he knew nothing of evolution and little of prehistoric hunter gatherer bands.
What we know now shows that societies that respect our Nature and it's laws function better and are more prosperous and stable than those which don't.
@no1marauder saidAltruism is helping withoutexpecting anything in return, like contributions of time and money by charitable citizens and neighbors. Certainly anonymous givers expect nothing. Charitable giving is fantastic in America. So we get you on that point. And we definitely teach charity to those very babies, like having them deliver the thanksgiving turkeys to the poor, or simply putting part of of their allowance into the collection on Sunday and serving the poor lunch lines.

@AverageJoe1 saidAnd ruining people's lives, as the Republican Party is doing today, is no part of that.
