Well, I daresay there are still some 'nice' parts of Scotland around Edinburgh and such, but it's a UK - wide problem. Ireland is in a particular situation, Southern Ireland of course still being in the EU, and thus benefitting from EU investment and funding. The fact is, however, that the UK economy has not recovered from Covid to anywhere near the extent that other European economies have done. Representatives of the Financial Times (a well - regarded UK broadsheet) are saying that only now are the full effects of Brexit becoming apparent.
It ain't rocket science to work out that to make trading more difficult with ones primary trading partners, and the biggest trading block in the world, was never going to be a good thing. Goods which could once be delivered within a day or so to mainland Europe now take weeks of red - tape, so people and companies aren't buying British goods anymore, many UK businesses have gone under, and others who are able to have moved their operations to EU countries, and thus out of the UK altogether. The present government are trying to forge closer economic and trading ties with the EU, all of which we had anyway before Brexit.

It's the elephant in the room which nobody talks about. The Tories don't talk about it because they did it, and Labour don't talk about it for fear of upsetting the Trade Unions, many of which supported Brexit, in the hope and expectation that the government might invest in British Industry and commerce, thus protecting and creating jobs in the UK, which didn't happen.

I do remember my one trip to London, I was there just wandering around after a layover flying through to Ireland for a job interview with Intel in Lexlip Ireland, but in London I remember looking down the street and totally amazed at what looked like looking at an Egyptian village, like an entire country had moved into that part of London.
I consider myself a citizen of planet Earth was not in any way revolted by that sight, just amazed that so many were gathered in London.
And I have been around the world myself three times, living in countries being paid for my living there not as just a two week tourist.
I really loved my time outside the US and am now totally revulsed by the barbaric actions like the new secret police of Trump, turning the US into a version of Russia or Iran.

You are correct, I did say buy 'rental' houses. I mean, He buys 10 'fixer uppers' from homeowners. That is all that I ever bought, thus my mindset to say rental houses. The idea is to Make Money, and that is a much more lucrative path. As you with your acumen must know, the investor/son is going to flip them. The money he collects meanwhile from rent??? That is what he uses to refurbish the properties. while they are occupied, slowly but surely, but tenants will be in there in no time.
So to answer your point, these will be TEN additional homes in the rental market. They have never been rented. Really, no investor is going to buy 10 existing homes and expect to make money. If so, they would be all doing it. I woud school this investpr/son on how to ferret out 'distressed' properties, motivated owners.

Why not say depreciation is a tax break? Every facet of deductions, et al, et al, on a 1040 is a cog in the wheel of tax breaks, an extremely general term.
